Hello all, usual good wishes!

Sort of following on from the "Are you doing more housework" thread!

Here are my current efforts:

Good Housekeeping: Actually ironed the pillowcases on the new Egyptian cotton bedlinen!smile

Bad Housekeeping: Only the ones that go on the top, and only on one side blush

Good Housekeeping: Dusted the shades on the standard lamps in the sitting room smile

Bad Housekeeping: Not all the way round, left the bits closest to the walls blush

Anyone else?

My iron and board come out immediately I am doing some dressmaking, and it is then well used. However, I have not had the sewing machine out nor touched a needle for 27 years. I do like clearing plug holes though.

Never iron.unless its a special occasion,(weddings, christenings, etc.) Even when youngest sons were still at school,i bought 'non-iron' shirts from M&S,and only pressed their trousers.(and occasionally a blazer)grin Now theyre at college/uni all their stuff goes in the dryer& just needs folding.grin

I have always said that I'd like to share a house with someone who'd do all the cleaning, and I'd do the washing, ironing and cooking. I really don't mind ironing. Now tidying and cleaning - that's a different story.

I iron selectively. The reason is entirely selfish in that I prefer the feel and look of me in an ironed item. I've tried the hefty/immediate shake out and short tumble. Not for me. I defy anyone not to be able to tell the difference between an ironed and non ironed item. However, if the user doesn't mind, I certainly don't. I'm more interested in what's inside the somewhat crumpled item. Dusting...... ah well..... I find if it's left long enough it can simply be rolled up and binned. Furthermore, there's a softer landing to be had if hoovering is avoided. Safety first! Good thread.

I have done little less than normal ironing since November when my dressing table had to be moved into my Lounge due to a leaking roof. I detest ironing, moving towards betterhmm weather I will have to do more

Kitchen & Bathroom are always clean as are my clothes & bed.

I haven't dusted since before "lockdown" & only hoovered twice. Don't get me wrong this is not due to "lockdown" but is quite normal for me, rather spend time in the garden/outsidegrin

All my life I have ironed and used spray starch on cotton bedding - sheets. pillowcases duvet covers. About 3 weeks ago I decided to stop and now just iron and spray starch the pillowcases. DH hasn't noticed and, apart from when I look in the linen cupboard and see folded crumpled sheets, neither have I. Why on earth did I waste all that time?

I’m reminded of the woman who said she knew summer had arrived when her husband started asking her to iron the whole of his office shirts, not just the fronts.

However I’m glad to say that no ironing or dusting whatsoever has taken place in this house for, er, quite a few days now.

MiniMoon - I have a saying for doing those other, more desirable things.....
I call it "Doing my rathers"

My bedding goes to the laundry...no, don’t judge, it’s my one extravagance and there is nothing better than clean, cool duvet and p/cases.they collect and deliver and to me it’s money well spent.

I have a technique I call 'lazy iron.' I have done a time and motion study on each garment or item I iron so that it LOOKS ironed with the minimal effort. For example, I iron almost every garment except the DH's shirts flat and have a method for doing pillowcases which takes about 30 seconds.

It worked so well that I now 'lazy Hoover', 'lazy carwash' and so on.

For the latter I use just two buckets of water and a caravan brush. In five to ten minutes I can get our large Ford Galaxy looking as if it had emerged from the carwash. And I never chamoix as cars dry themselves without streaking.

I love ironing - I find it so relaxing

GreenGran78 Tue 28-Apr-20 11:55:27

Having lost quite a lot of weight all my trousers are baggy. I picked up a couple of smaller pairs in Sainsbury’s sale yesterday. As usual, because I’m such a shorta**e, I will have to cut a couple of inches off the legs, sew them up, then iron them.

Perhaps I can put up with my baggy pants if I wear a belt, for the time being. After all, no-one sees me very much, these days, and I have a very important .........something-or-other.........which needs urgent attention! ?

Nanny27 Tue 28-Apr-20 11:41:28

I so love you lot. Laughing as I read. I actually do iron most things. I do tea towels(sorry) too. Always iron bed linen seems to feel so much softer.

annehinckley Tue 28-Apr-20 11:32:29

Bedlinen is about the only thing I DO iron. When buying clothes the question is 'Will it need ironing?' If the answers 'yes' it stays in the shop.
P.S. My sister irons towels!

leeds22 Tue 28-Apr-20 11:31:32

I don’t mind ironing but not sheets or duvet covers, only top of pillow cases. Catch up on podcasts while I iron. I’ve a friend who hates ironing and I did wonder about offering a job swap but I don't think she would want to clean my bathroom.

Hate cleaning, went a bit mad at start of lockdown and now it all needs doing again. So boring.

inishowen Tue 28-Apr-20 11:29:51

I rarely iron. Most of our things are folded straight out of the dryer and look fine when worn. My bad housekeeping would be dropping a floor wipe on the floor and using my foot to swish it round.

DiW1 Tue 28-Apr-20 11:21:23

I’m following the guidelines and doing everything “virtually”. So I’m sat on the sofa with a cup of coffee virtually cleaning a kitchen cupboard. Bad housekeeping?

Rosalyn69 Tue 28-Apr-20 11:20:29

I love ironing. A book on Audible, earphones plugged in and I’m happy as a pig in clover.
The children don’t even own an iron.
However, dust and I live in mutual harmony.
