Hello all, usual good wishes!

Sort of following on from the "Are you doing more housework" thread!

Here are my current efforts:

Good Housekeeping: Actually ironed the pillowcases on the new Egyptian cotton bedlinen!smile

Bad Housekeeping: Only the ones that go on the top, and only on one side blush

Good Housekeeping: Dusted the shades on the standard lamps in the sitting room smile

Bad Housekeeping: Not all the way round, left the bits closest to the walls blush

Anyone else?

I was doing the ironing when my dgd age 6 asked ‘what are you doing grandma’ I replied ironing. She then asked what’s ironing’. Needless to say my dd doesn’t iron ! I occasionally run the iron over her screwed up dress when I see her.

Good Housekeeping: washed the cushion covers yesterday and they dried beautifully outside.
Bad Housekeeping: First time in two years.....

I love ironing and iron everything, just like my late Mum did!!

I'm really enjoying this self-isolating - cleaning, dusting, tidying, etc, etc, is my new very relaxing hobby!

My help irons my sheets because I like smooth sheets.
I remember the days before man made fabrics when every thing had to be ironed and had to be damped down beforehand.

Thank you all for the giggles this morning! When DH and I downsized, the ironing board somehow got 'lost' as did the iron.

The iron has since turned up, in a big box of sundry kitchen items, but remains in the loft.

We do nicely without it - and have happily found that life is too short to worry about unironed bed linen smile

The iron will however be required when I have a go at quilting.

Usual routine not much changed really, like to keep reasonably on top of things with minimum of effort.

I clean bathroom and kitchen at least once a week. Living on a farm with dogs and cats the floors are a nightmare but try and keep them acceptable.

It is noticeable the lack of pollution here. Rarely dust as the only dust is fine ash from woodburning stove which I find acceptable.

I iron top side of pillowcases and table napkins, and smart clothes if we wear them, if necessary .

DDs taught me that ironing (mostly) wasn't necessary when they were old enough to do their own! However, I admit that I've got to the point just now when I really can't justify spending hours doing crosswords/playing bridge on the computer and reading, so I've actually got a fitted sheet sitting on the chair in the living room, along with new elastic to replace the wizened no longer stretchy stuff in the sheet. That's as far ad it's got, but I predict that I will unwillingly and unskillfully do the job in the next month...maybe.....

Barmeyoldbat Tue 28-Apr-20 10:38:14

I don't do ironing but Mr Barmey does and I don't like to spoil his hobby.

I last ironed about 3 years ago, when I was going on holiday. I haven't been on holiday since then so I haven't ironed anything either.

Many years ago I used to iron my sons' jeans.
One evening they were both ready for bed, in their pyjamas.
Later on I looked in their room to say goodnight.
The younger one was in bed, but fully dressed.
When I asked why, he said he had to be at the local shop at 7am the next morning for his paper round and hadn't got time to get dressed then, so had gone to bed ready to go.
Ironing stopped after that ?

I'm occasionally forced to dust behind the sofa before my daughter visits with her little black scottie dog - she (dog, not daughter) likes to squeeze herself behind the sofa and comes out covered in dust and cobwebs... grin

Don't iron unless it's something dressy once every fidty years and then that leads to yet more tasks- dusting off the iron and excavating the ironing table. However yestetday I did tackle some of the less visited corners of the bathroom (still under construction so never a gleaming place at the best of times). It's raining today so I might possibly have a bit of a sort out in the kitchen. Or then again I might not and open a bottle of wine instead.

Remember seeing a friend doing this once grin

DH and I seem to be doing more housework than before and lock down is feeding our OCD nicely. DH irons everything I could no more sleep in unironed bed linen than fly to the moon.
I really dont understand hearing about people bleaching everything and then saying they aren't doing the housework.

Esmerelda Tue 28-Apr-20 10:19:42

PS Ironing? What is this of which you speak?

Esmerelda Tue 28-Apr-20 10:17:43

Good Housekeeping: I cleaned the flat on Sunday.
Bad Housekeeping: I hadn't done it for three weeks!
(Too much lovely sunshine not to be spending all my time in the garden ?)

Matelda Tue 28-Apr-20 10:16:36

I find I sleep better between freshly ironed cotton sheets. Another couple of hours makes a lot of difference. If pillowcases are ironed on one side, smoothed out with the hands and carefully folded the warmth makes everything perfect.

polnan Tue 28-Apr-20 10:14:59

now I don`t even bother to get the vacuum out,, then my local church did a Zoom meeting...
guess who whizzed around putting things where they should be etc. and angled the ipad so they could only see the ceiling,, wow, cobwebs up there?

Craftycat Tue 28-Apr-20 10:14:45

I like ironing.
I do the bedding & my DH has work shirts etc.
I have my ironing board by the window in back bedroom overlooking our garden so I can appreciate my efforts with the flowers & also watch all the birds on our feeders.
My Mum liked ironing too so maybe is is her fault!

Calendargirl Tue 28-Apr-20 10:12:51

MiniMoon

He’s on display in the Co Op

What do you mean? Is he a sort of mannequin in the window? If so, surely the store should provide neatly ironed clothes to help him look the part?

?

Rose56 Tue 28-Apr-20 10:12:24

Gave up ironing years ago, better ways to spend time

Paperbackwriter Tue 28-Apr-20 10:11:19

"having said that I don’t have a husband whose shirts would need ironing so no need"

Goodness, BlueBelle, even if one's husband's shirts did need ironing, why couldn't he do it? How many more years will we have to fight the "ovaries = ironing" assumption!

Nannanna Tue 28-Apr-20 10:10:44

Expert folding - no ironing !

grandMattie Tue 28-Apr-20 10:09:27

It’s obvious few of you do any dressmaking. An iron is a must! Having said that, I prefer ironing to dusting so avoid the latter by doing the former,,,

Froglady Tue 28-Apr-20 10:08:44

Phoenix - your post have me smile ! Thank you for that . I hate ironing to the extent that I haven't ironed anything for over 20 years. On the house cleaning front, I actually vacuumed the whole flat yesterday as it really needed it and the lady that cleans for me hasn't been able to do it since lockdown began. I have a cleaner as I'm disabled and dusting and vacuuming causes me a lot of pain. But I am keeping the flat tidy and putting things away, so it doesn't look too bad.
