Hello all, usual good wishes!

Sort of following on from the "Are you doing more housework" thread!

Here are my current efforts:

Good Housekeeping: Actually ironed the pillowcases on the new Egyptian cotton bedlinen!smile

Bad Housekeeping: Only the ones that go on the top, and only on one side blush

Good Housekeeping: Dusted the shades on the standard lamps in the sitting room smile

Bad Housekeeping: Not all the way round, left the bits closest to the walls blush

Anyone else?

I never iron either if I can get away with it. Had a fab MIL who used to do it for me but sadly passed away now so don't bother.

I don’t iron anything, I have been known to remove the odd crease from something with my hair straighteners- works a treat ?

I hang my washing all straight on the line after a good shake so most doesn't need ironing once dry just fold and put away,the hissy spluttering thingy in the cupboard never needs to be switched on.

Ironing? Madness. I never iron anything unless I absolutely have to. That is usually creased clothing. This may stem from the fifties when I had to iron cotton dresses with yards of skirt EVERY TIME the were worn. The other use for an iron is sticking unravelled hems back up in a hurry with wundaweb.

My ironing board is left up to fool myself thet I'm keeping busy. Might iron a couple of things if I need a break from my jigsaw or the tv.

Minimoon
I love that poem, so true...

Annaram1 Tue 28-Apr-20 09:53:47

I only iron things I consider necessary such as blouses and T shirts. And bedding. There's nothing nicer than slipping into a nice clean bed with lovely flat sheets. I hate rumpled ones..

Here's a poem about dust.

Dust If You Must

Dust if you must, but wouldn’t it be better
To paint a picture, or write a letter,
Bake a cake, or plant a seed;
Ponder the difference between want and need?

Dust if you must, but there’s not much time,
With rivers to swim, and mountains to climb;
Music to hear, and books to read;
Friends to cherish, and life to lead.

Dust if you must, but the world’s out there
With the sun in your eyes, and the wind in your hair;
A flutter of snow, a shower of rain,
This day will not come around again.

Dust if you must, but bear in mind,
Old age will come and it’s not kind.
And when you go (and go you must)
You, yourself, will make more dust.

I only iron DH's work trousers. He's on display in the Co-op so he needs to look neat.
He did remark yesterday about the dust in the living room, but he only noticed it because it was illuminated by the sunshine!

Housework? Wanders off contemplating life, the universe and everything and everything >>>>

Oh my goodness OCD in overdrive. I wash and iron daily or my head spins around on my shoulders. When we go away I cant wait to get home to turn on the washer. Yes I know I'm a freak, but to leave it even a day does my head in. Leave it three days and I'm committed.

My ironing board has a seat and my DH uses it not me!!

If husbands need ironed shirts they should do it themselves.

eazybee Tue 28-Apr-20 09:05:31

If you don't iron what is your excuse for watching daytime TV?

Charleygirl5 Tue 28-Apr-20 08:47:39

I bought a new ironing board a few years ago- it is not fully unwrapped yet. I should really transfer it and the iron to the shed because I will never be using them now that I do not have clothes to iron for work or men's shirts to iron I retired 18 years ago, he b*****ed off many years before that!

kitty you are saving electricity not using your hoover.

jeanie99 Tue 28-Apr-20 02:58:58

You actually iron bedding!!

trisher Tue 14-Apr-20 20:54:01

Never iron unless I have to . I have to more in summer because of cotton and linen. My mum loved ironing and used o do mine. My eldest DS took over ironing his shirts when he was about 14. He does them better than I ever did. I think it skipped a generation!
I'm still trying to figure out the Bad housekeeping in the OP. All looks good to me. Could what my gran taught me-stuff the newspapers and magazines under the settee cushions when visitors arrive -count?

Ninarosa Tue 14-Apr-20 20:33:28

' What a sucker '

I bought a Hoover some years ago
- a machine that's considered a ' must '
but I've thrown it away because , you know,
It was only gathering dust !

rockgran Tue 14-Apr-20 20:23:27

I love ironing. Just saying!

downtoearth Tue 14-Apr-20 20:18:33

I Iron as I need it...not very often..
Fold and smooth where needed..
Bedding ,never.
Only thing crumpled and creased is megrin

Chewbacca Tue 14-Apr-20 20:17:00

I used to iron everything, sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers, everything that was washed. I moved to this house in June 2019. The iron and ironing board are still in the shed waiting to be unpacked never gonna happen. Has anyone noticed that nothing is ironed anymore? Nope!

GagaJo Tue 14-Apr-20 20:12:26

I never iron. I used to have the occasional piece of clothing that needed it, but those have long since fallen apart and been chucked away.

My GS does have a few linen pieces that could do with ironing. But given that as soon as he's in them, they're rumpled and hanging, there's no point!

CanadianGran Tue 14-Apr-20 19:55:26

There's not much that I iron. The occasional dressy item, or hubby's dress shirts.

I do remember that my mother ironed everything, including underwear. We sometimes helped, but I think she preferred doing it herself (also to her standards(.
