Hello all, usual good wishes!

Sort of following on from the "Are you doing more housework" thread!

Here are my current efforts:

Good Housekeeping: Actually ironed the pillowcases on the new Egyptian cotton bedlinen!smile

Bad Housekeeping: Only the ones that go on the top, and only on one side blush

Good Housekeeping: Dusted the shades on the standard lamps in the sitting room smile

Bad Housekeeping: Not all the way round, left the bits closest to the walls blush

Anyone else?

When I used to iron, I always had things like linen trousers at the bottom of the basket for months and months.

Now I just don't wear linen trousers anymore.

DH irons all his own clothes + all rectangular items - bed clothes, tea towels etc. I do iron most of my clothes but on a "as and when" basis. When we've been on holiday, cropped white trousers and sleeveless tops, can lurk at the bottom of the ironing basket until needed for next holiday. Which in our present situation will be sometime next year- maybe.

I really don't understand the ironing hatred. It's warm and dry and you get to see a nice end result. Besides, I think if I wear smooth clothes it will detract from my creased face.
However, cleaning the windows can wait forever as far as I'm concerned.

I cleaned for my dad very many years ago. Used to iron just the top half of sheets on bed. Don’t think he noticed. ?

My mother used to iron everything, even bra straps and towels. The house was immaculate- it was more of a show home. This was in the days when she worked full time with one day off a month.

When I first got married and she visited the first thing she did was clean the place and I had cleaned it specially because I knew my parents were visiting. Now she would wonder how she had brought up such a slovenly daughter.

Ingenious V3ra! Anything to save time gets my vote. ?

I like ironing now. Didn’t when I was a young Mum. But not so much now. No work or school shirts.
I only iron DH’s hankies and his boxer shorts !!!! plus top clothes like t shirts etc. Never bed linen unless we have visitors.
My ironing basket gets emptied between washes.
I used to know someone who ironed her children’s socks. They had a crease down the front,

Yep! Me too! I don't actually enjoy ironing, I just feel guilty if I don't do it! I don't bake either - but I have a good excuse for this - both hubby and I are diabetic!

In common with another poster, I clean bathrooms (we have one plus an en-suite) and kitchens, and pull off dandelion heads in the gardens (front, side and back). Not doing much else at present, but we are "shielding" - so no one gets to see! Unless they are in the field behind us, when I'm in the back garden!

I'm another non ironer! There really is no point. I can remember spending hours on a Sunday night ironing school shirts for the kids and work shirts for DH. Think I've done my fair share!

I iron pillowcases if I’m ironing other things.

TwiceAsNice Tue 28-Apr-20 18:22:19

I iron everything except underwear and towels. Just saying! I find it soothing

So much doom and gloom, social distancing keeping us away from friends then house work is the last thing on my mind. If warm enough I shall sit in my garden with tea/coffee and cupcakeor even a glass of wine, my kindle for company, and listen to the chirping of fledgling blackbirds in a nearby hedge. Bliss.

I like ironing and find it relaxing and therapeutic, especially with radio 4 or an audio book.

Puzzler61 when my ex-son-in-law was doing his pilot officer training in the RAF they had room inspection to the nth degree. (The point being to instil an attention to detail).
If he was coming home for the weekend he'd make his bed on the Friday, iron the sheets on the bed, then sleep on the floor that night so the bed was undisturbed and he could get away sooner on the Saturday morning.

I don't even mind my bed being a bit fusty. blush
Well, I'm not keen, but I'm plagued by an unwillingness to wrestle with quilt covers.

I don't mind ironing it's putting it all away I hate . I do iron my bed linen if I was rich I would have clean ironed bed linen every night .

Puzzler61 Tue 28-Apr-20 15:54:24

Good housekeeping: I iron duvet cover - top side showing only - when I first do a bed linen change. There’s a socket next to the bed and the cord on the iron just reaches .... easiest way I’ve found, but it took me 40 years to find it.
Bad housekeeping: I only wear my specs to read, I don’t wear them when I’m walking around the house in case I see dust lurking and feel obliged to remove it.

Greciangirl Tue 28-Apr-20 15:48:07

What a waste of time, ironing bedding.
It just gets crumpled up when you get into bed.

If not crumpled up when wet, it keeps nice and smooth. Occasionally the odd crease, but quite frankly, I’m not bothered.
As for clothes, I only usually iron jeans and summer tops when needed.
I don’t have a laundry room, so getting the ironing board out every time is a nuisance.

cas58 Tue 28-Apr-20 15:45:43

Iron as required and if I had a husband he would iron his own damn shirts.

dihut Tue 28-Apr-20 14:41:26

I iron pillowcases but not sheets. My MIL was a stickler for housework, hoovered and dusted every day, every room "done properly" once a week on a designated day. I used to tease her when she said she dusted the tops of doors, saying I didn't know any one could see up there so no need, grin think she thought I was quite slovenly smile

Mealybug Tue 28-Apr-20 14:40:43

I never iron unless it's a last resort, my washing goes into the dryer and comes out crease free if I take it out when it's still warm

Peardrop50 Tue 28-Apr-20 14:37:28

Good housekeeping: Made a list of chores
Bad housekeeping: Haven't done any of them

BelindaB Tue 28-Apr-20 14:34:23

Because of various allergies I can only wear cotton (can't afford silk!) and as you will all be aware - cotton creases! So I do iron, usually after a laundry had dried and been brought in. I've taught my son how to iron his work shirts and trousers and he just gets on with it.

Nanna58 Tue 28-Apr-20 14:28:43

# evil grin, I wonder if there’s enough room under there for Mr C .....? ?

Nanna58 Tue 28-Apr-20 14:26:44

I can’t! Our dump is shut and the dustmen will only take certain items!
