Thank you all for your storage solutions. I like the look of the Ikea drawers but I do think £39 is a lot for delivery and they are only in stock at Norwich.

Great news for your daughter Ellianne, hope everything goes smoothly for her and they are soon in their new house.

Whiff Thu 06-Aug-20 08:26:09

Franbern hope I got the date right did your daughter have her scan yesterday? If so hope all went well. I know she will have to wait for results hope they are ok.

Franbern Thu 06-Aug-20 08:42:09

Whiff, bless you for remembering about my daughter's scan. When I saw her last week, she made it clear to me that I was not to 'nag' her, and she would let me know the results when she receives them from, the Doctor. So.......I am just keeping quiet with her about this. I think that she is actually a little more concerned about them than she is letting on. But.....I am remaining very calm!!!!!!
She is now able to go back in her office for a couple of days a week as from 1st August. Will continue to work from home for other days. I did send her GOOD LUCK wishes on Monday, only to receive a message from her saying that Occy Health wanted to do their own assessment so she was not permitted back on that day. I am assuming she went in on Tuesday, but will speak to her at the weekend, when she will have a little more time to talk to me.
She will be 50 in a couple of months.........worrying about your children really is a life-time sentence!!!
At the present time, we are all waiting with bated breath for the next fortnight, to receive A level results for my g.son. His projections were 'A's, BUT the report the on Tuesday that many of the Scottish projections were downgraded has left him in an a very agitated state. He is upset in any case, as he was hoping for an A plus for Chemistry had he been able to take the exam.
Have a good day everyone.

All the windows are open, I am trying to cool the house down a bit before tomorrow when it will warm up again and last about a week. Up like a flipping lark again, before 5. I just cannot lie in bed in the morning. It is too warm in the south, almost all through summer, I have always needed to be a bit cooler. South Wales was fine but I find it hard to cope with the heat here. I am not moaning though, it is as it is and I cannot help but think of people stuck in high rise blocks in london. At least it has made me appreciate the E/W aspect here when there is some respite for me, when the shade comes in on the east side and I can enjoy sitting out then

Nothing organised again today, I had to dust my bedroom, blimey the dust settled quickly after me giving it a good bottoming. Open window, wind and builders down the close and a change of bedding I suppose

I really want some exercise and fresh air, cycling it is later. I also set my rebounder up in the tidy garage, bouncing keeps my bones strong

If whiff has the correct day then yes, me too, I wish you all the best franbern

Ellianne Thu 06-Aug-20 09:30:38

Thanks again and I have

Ellianne Thu 06-Aug-20 09:33:05

....... loved all your recent posts.
Yes, the heatwave is on the way, so all windows open here too. The ones at the front are older and need replacing but I hear there are grants for home improvements come Spetember so may well apply.
Have a good day.

My bathroom man has been and confirmed everything, etc. Fortunately my daughter came over to be here when he came, and was able to stop me flustering with all the bits of paper, etc. And, she pointed out that A level results are NEXT Thursday, so not long to wait.
Been raining here this morning, but very warm and humid. Fortunately, the flat is easy to keep cool as it does have good size windows.
Sent in my leccie and gas readings to EDF.
If I feel up to it may wander down to see if I can get my hair cut this afternoon.

Shandy57 Thu 06-Aug-20 12:43:57

Afternoon all, sunny and humid here today so I'm going to tackle the garage this afternoon, my dog can go in the garden.

I'm glad your daughter's scan is/will be happening Franbern, good luck for her results.

I still feel upset about a programme I watched last night, 'Surviving Covid'. Very moving. My husband had his heart stopped and restarted three times, I was shocked to see it on the television. Unfortunately it didn't work for him and he lived with arrythmia. I'd forgotten about my very realistic dream in early March where he waved happily to me, I hope I dream about him again.

I've done my budget now and am horrified to find I've been spending about £30 a week on the '100% natural' dog food I buy. Two tins a day a £1.79 a tin. I've just found a natural dog food company called 'Butternut' which would halve that. I'm learning albeit it a bit late smile

Enjoy your afternoon.

Funny you should mention hair cut Franbern. Phoned for a hair appointment this morning. The hair dressers I use is only 10 mins walk away. Last had it done January or February. I usually have a dry cut but due to the precautions they need to wash it first. Which is fine . It will be a new experience never had my hair washed at a hair dressers before. At the age of 62 still having new experiences .

After doing the housework went into the back garden for hour to weed. The front will be done tomorrow as that will take at least a couple of hours. The Hermes man delivered the base to my parasol today. It's so lovely here the postman and delivery drivers call me by my Christian name. Funny by moving got my own identity back. Not my husband wife then widow or children's mom.

All I need is my bench putting together but my daughter says they will do it ,as it will take 2 people. I have the parasol , bench cushion and bench cover. Can't wait to be able to sit in the garden.

My daughter and grandson are coming soon . So I am in for a fun afternoon.

Shandy57 Thu 06-Aug-20 17:25:39

Feeling pleased with myself, managed to spend an hour rearranging one side of the garage and now have space for a 'dumpy' bag of wood. I do hate unloading it but will be marvellous to take a few steps to the garage, rather than 18 upwards!

craftyone Thu 06-Aug-20 20:11:37

Shandy, this is the month I would have got my tonne of wood pellets in for the pellet stove, would have stored them on pallets in the garage. Would have carried them into the house when needed over winter, they used to be 10kg, which was ok but they changed to 15kg which was an effort. Thank heavens for gas.

I thought you would be out of there by winter shandy

Whiff Thu 06-Aug-20 20:20:16

You took the words out of my mouth Craftyone. Shandy57 I thought you would be in your new home before winter. Why are you buying wood? Thought you were going house hunting that's why you had booked your train tickets. Have you changed your mind?

Shandy57 Thu 06-Aug-20 22:35:54

Probably seems odd to you in warmer places! Need a fire from early September, temperature here drops rapidly sad , often accompanied by high winds and hail/horizontal sleet.

Whiff Thu 06-Aug-20 22:37:48

I live in the north west . Don't think that is classed as warmer places!

craftyone Fri 07-Aug-20 06:28:37

winter is good here and the house is very efficient at keeping me warm but summer is `hell` when it gets too hot outside. Most houses are heat sinks ie they absorb the heat and let it out slowly all night, this is why it is best to keep heating on low constantly in the cold months. It takes many hours to bring a house back up to temperature in winter

All windows and doors are open and I have reduced temperature indoors by 3 degrees but the sun is peeping out, so I shall soon be closing up on the east side. At least the temperature drop gives me some leeway. It is boring in the heat indoors. Best time is from 5 to 7.30 am

My sister in aus says that they have lit the fire as it is 7 degrees

Ellianne Fri 07-Aug-20 07:14:03

Very early morning dog walk today before it gets too hot. Spot the teeny bunny in the mist, no people around.

Ellianne Fri 07-Aug-20 07:33:55

We no longer need the bedroom and the bunk beds for the little ones to come and stay, so we are taking the bunks apart today. Then I will fill any holes before they are sent to their new home, only 7 minutes away. The question is then what to do with the empty room? We already have a proper guest bedroom, so there's no point in creating another one, we also have a dining room and a lounge. We use laptops for work so don't really need a study. The room itself is in a strange position at the front of the house where you come in through French doors. It is not huge, but nice and square. I'll have to give it some serious thought. Oh yes, and it has sun all day.

craftyone Fri 07-Aug-20 07:44:14

a reading/relaxing room with a very comfortable chair, no tv, just for peace and chilling. Some bookshelves and a coffee table

Shandy57 Fri 07-Aug-20 08:54:05

Morning all, quite fresh and sunny here today. I hope you are all OK with the heat, it seems Kent is going to be hotter than Jamaica this weekend!

Off to walk the dog then meeting a friend I last saw in January on the beach with her grandson.

Enjoy your day smile

Shandy57 Fri 07-Aug-20 09:02:28

I've been thinking about your room Ellianne, and think you need a pool table smile

craftyone Fri 07-Aug-20 09:50:11

lol, trust you shandy

I am coolly working at the kitchen table and have gone back via my bank statements through the whole time since I moved, month by month and I had a dreadful sinking in my stomach, ALL that money, not just the big spends but the dribs and drabs of eg hardware at the local hardware store. It was a LOT of money, I have not added it all up, it did make a pit in my stomach

So today I have started to tie up the budget ends, the pensions will be put in every month just as a bundle and the samea for the regulr outgoings energy/council tax/internet/mobile phone. Council tax is only for 10 months but I would like that extra 2 months to be an additional safety net. I have not included food and clothing but will include birthdays, AA etc. I shocked myself, I had not included boiler service nor stove service and flu clean nor cycle 3rd party insurance nor tv licence

I want all this on paper. I will delete everything on m/smoney and start again later, just to include current accounts and savings

Honestly I do need this shake up now and then, it makes me face reality on a fixed income

GrandmaMoira Fri 07-Aug-20 10:10:28

34 degrees here today, around the same as last Friday. I got overheated yesterday so doing as little as possible today.

Teetime Fri 07-Aug-20 10:29:17

At last a provisional moving date!!!!

craftyone Fri 07-Aug-20 11:07:57

oh that is good teetime, almst there now

I am lovely and cool right now, have been quietly working in the dining room with the laptop on the table, much better. It could also be that I froze some bananas and have made a shake with strawberries, blueberries, cold milk and cold yohurt plus the frozen banana and it is gorgeous and very cold

I decided to use m/s money because I cannot handle spreadsheets. I have a written backup and saved m/s money on a usb stick. It is working, putting regular monthly outgoings and pensions into just 2 baskets, it is keeping the list cleaner. Anyway it has taken me over a year to face my budget again and a good thing too. Overall it is about a thousand cheaper pa to live in this house
