Made some marmalade yesterday. The roofers came and filled in the crack in the garage and took down some shelves for me. They started to apply clear weather shield onto the brickwork managed to to the front and most of the gale end. Came back this afternoon and finished the bungalow and put it on the garage . It is water proof and frost proof. One of the men threw some water onto the brickwork they did yesterday and the water just run of it. Threw some on untreated bricks and the water stayed on. It's amazing how it works.

That's me all weather proofed for the winter. Have a good bank holiday everyone.

I had no plans for today but have spent the whole day in the garden, re-planting strawberries and revitalising their soil. It literally took the whole day but garden looks much neater with tall new pots, recycled plastic and I threw the felt strawberry planters in the bin

Had a shower and washed my hair, the electric shower needed to be increased a bit so I can see me changing to step-over bath gas shower soon. Much better pressure because some water in the boiler is already hot

Zoom meeting very soon, will have a handy GnT while it is on

Morning everyone, sun today thankfully, but autumn is definitely here. I had to light the fire last night, as the central heating has gone wrong, the landlord is coming this afternoon.

I've been up in the night with my dog as he has diarrhoea after kennels, he'd also gone in the kitchen

I spent yesterday registering with the few remaining agents in Exmouth, keep your fingers crossed something lovely comes up for my visit in three weeks. Thank you for your encouragement everyone, I am finding it hard on such a small budget. I am prepared to buy a small living space, but would like a small private garden of some sort for my dog's night time sniffari and piddle.

I've also asked to view a local house, but no response from the EA.

once upon a time when moving to s wales from cumbria, we researched the areas, found the area we wanted and put a wanted advert in the local paper. We got 4 replies and chose one of them, lovely house and seen not gone up for the EA, Vale of glamorgan and no EA fees

No question, we had to move because dd had to open and run an office in cardiff. We stayed there for over 30 years, loved it

I am just waiting for a large amount of brown rice to cook in my rice cooker, I need to spread it on cool plates and quickly bag in portions for the freezer. Then I will take advantage of the gorgeous day and will tootle on my bike

Afternoon everyone - I was on Rightmove when my laptop screen went white. Couldnt do anything so switched off, won’t switch on again. Bad news is that Lenovo support is only Monday to Friday, and it’s BH. Why does it always happen when I need it most! So glad I have my Iphone, although too hard to type with sausage fingers?

Feeling slightly tearful as my daughter and g.daughter get ready to leave. We have had a really wonderful couple of days together. So good seeing them - went to Wells on Saturday, and then spent yesterday local. Gave the opportunity for my g.daughter to go to local Funland and join her cousin on the very scary (but not for 17-year olds) rides. It has been a truly good relaxing time. Going to miss them.
However, now made arrangements to go to them for a few days at end of month - and will have the time then to see several of my London and Essex friends. So, only four weeks away.
Tomorrow, work on bathroom will continue - by next weekend hopefully will actually be able to have a bath in there.
Lots of things changing now, with schools all re-opening, my daughter here starts her new school job tomorrow, so will not be as available for me as she has been over past months. Be really good to see all the children and youngsters returning to their education.
My g.son now has the date to go to Soton Uni - end of September, so it is going to be an interesting month for our family.
My son and his wife are due here for a visit in a fortnights time, not staying with me but in the really good hotel less than five minutes (for them) walk away from my flat.

Always bittersweet seeing friends and family when they leave isn't it Franbern but you have the memories to recall the fun time you have had.

On my first trip to the UK my friend, who lives near Oxford, and I went to Wells. I loved it but as we were walking to the car after visiting the Bishops Palace the heavens opened and we were absolutely saturated by the time we got back to the car. An experience that, among others, has given us many giggles and wonderful memories since.

Very quiet on this thread over the last couple of days I hope you are all having a great bank holiday weekend.

Our weekend is going well. As a result of moving last year we are now shed building with the intent of clearing our old big shed back at the house so our SIL can transform it into a home office.

It has taken me 45 years of marriage to accumulate that hoard. Lots of good intentions but now I am going to buy lots of black rubbish bags and stuff is going to the tip. Or to free cycle. Wish me luck.

The local house sounds interesting, Shandy. Hope you hear from the EA.

All doom and gloom on the news about uni's could be the next care homes for Covid. Just hope that doesn't happen. The majority of uni goers will be sensible but it's always the minority that spoil it for others. They seem to think others can catch but not me and carry on disregarding the rules .

Another cold but sunny day again. Didn't do much yesterday just read and cross stitched. Housework for today. The rest of the week have something planned for each day.

Pressed the wrong button again . Loopyloo have fun building your shed. It will be a messy job clearing out the old one. Wonder what you will find you had forgotten you had ?

spice, I am still here, I do read every day but sometimes feel as though I have nothing to add, life just goes on, very strangely at the moment, for all of us.

You are very busy franbern, making the most of it. It does sound lovely with your family

loopyloo, its so nice to have a project, shed building and clearing, it will be so very worthwhile to make that office space while de-cluttering. I think that is what I miss, the last three years have been full on, all aiming towards this house move. I was going to be oh so busy this year, joining things, sharing some crafts and making friends but of course that has all fallen flat so new projects need to come in and I look for them

Today I have sorted my stockcupboard and food containers.
All done now and bits are on the kitchen floor, so roomba is cleaning while I have my break. Took me a solid 2 hours to sort. I miss the layout in my last kitchen, my one and only, designed by me. All pull out drawers and several cupboards had shallow shelves so that things were easily accessible. Most of my cupboard space here is as deep as my main oven, too deep, so I have had to work out some sort of storage system. The pull out larder has 5 good shelves but I can only reach 3

I have joined ocado at great expense but have decided that I will use ocado as my larder for most of the year, my aim is to get through what I have and to have a basic larder. Its a little different right now because of covid and brexit and the uncertainty over winter.

I have to say , Crafty, that you are an inspiration to me in the way you are decluttering.

Loopyloo -it is so very cathartic to have a really big sort out. You may be amazed at what you find in that shed.
I had to pop out as when sorting out spare sofa/bed, found some ear phones left by g.daughter. Have already received the message to say they are safely home.
I do enjoy living by myself and am appreciating (already) having my flat back to myself, but did enjoy their visit. When I went out I popped into my daughter -who said she was expecting me as knew how tearful I always get when people leave ( I used to ave it badly when she used to come to stay with me in London). Feel fine now, just drying of bed sheets, towels etc. ready to pack away again.
It does annoy meas to how the media likes to emphasise bad leaked reports, etc. but rarely gives much space at all to anything positive.
I am not at all worried about more cases when youngsters return to education - probably will be - but let's face it, until such time as a good vaccine is found, it is obvious that people will contract this as they mix with each other. Unadvoidable - other than us all staying locked in out homes for the foreseeable future. Yes, there will be increased numbers testing positive - does not necessarily mean death (or even hospitalisation) rates will increase again. I am more than willing to put up with that slightly increased risk in order to get our young people and children back to education and socialisation.

Great Bank Holiday weekend here and the weather was fine. The holiday makers were enjoying their last ice creams on the beach, while our daughter and family had to pinch themselves that they weren't returning home to London tonight.
Yes, time to get things back on track with schools and unis. Our grandchildren have missed out on so much.

On the news they were saying the teachers main priority will be be to see how much catching up the pupils will need. Heres a thought why don't they scrap the half term in October this year. That way they will have an extra week of learning. But that would mean the government using common sense so don't suppose they will do it.

Not much on today. Boiler being service between 12- 6. Need to phone another person who does paving and my window guy. As the trim bit on the bottom of the outside of the kitchen door keeps falling off. Need to transfer some seedlings into the garden. And some ironing. Once I can get hold of the charity I have stuff for I can get the garage sorted out as I want it.

Oh Whiff you don't want to be saying no October half term on Gransnet, the teachers on here will rap you over the knuckles! They're not keen on today's return to school as it is.
To be fair this is the longest term of the school year and the October break is always welcome, (not that anyone will be able to go abroad in 2020 anyway).

I enjoy this particular thread because it is full of resourceful, can do people. We all have our anxieties and days in the dumps, but the main mood is onwards and upwards and plan for the future.

I got up early to ring the Lenovo help line to return my laptop - says 8 am on one site, 9 am on another, unfortunately.

I have managed to set up my huge heavy old Mac desktop to check my emails, but it's precariously balanced on a tiny side table, I won't be able to get on here much until my laptop is repaired.

One week in October will make little difference. And, teachers and students do need to re-charge batteries. Sure older students will have loads of home work for that week.
The idea of delaying next years GCSE and A levels is absolutely disastrous. Just a knee-jerk reaction - it would have little effect on learning time, and would cause serious problems with times regarding getting everything marked and results out and next stages sorted.
The mos sensible suggestion I have heard (so sensible that it unlikely to be used!!), is that all schools just teach just 14 or 15 of the normal 17 modules and the exams are held on a simple multiple choice system - with just 15 of 18 questions requiring tot be answered. In that way students can answer the questions on the modules they have covered and ignore the others.
Builders back in now - tiler starting to work, when that is done bathroom will start to make shape.
Having gone out yesterday to post off envelope with g.daughters ear phones, came home to finish tidying up and found hanging in the wardrobe in spare bedroom my daughters dress (which she had brought with to wear on Saturday night birthday celebration - and then decided it was too cold). So, have packed that up and will go to post office later this morning to send that off.
Shandy, think it is dreadful that your new laptop is not working, they should not repair it - just replace it with many apologies.

PS Ellianne, I've booked to view Rolle Villas, there is a ground floor flat in my price range. Not sure about it as it has huge sash windows, but I could get a burglar alarm fitted.

crafty are you ordering M &S food on Ocado? It is more difficult now to get slots here since that started, so I can only assume everyone is trying it out.
