we only use compressed tablets for pans and oven trays/shelves/self basting roaster etc. We use gel from Aldi it is kinder. For glassware we use dw liquid, now becoming more difficult to source. Also in soft water W Yorkshire we never ever use dw salt. We also had knives, cutlery and an array of great scissors and devices from wonderful Boyes which go in the dw on 40deg quick wash and come out squeaky clean and shiny. I should say this is all after years of experimentation. We hand wash bone handles cutlery and crystal glasses. At this time of year, for students, Sainsbury have reduced/cheap cutlery, fine for kitchen use. However, no idea how or why cutlery pits?!
