Ironing

My ironing board is old and rickety and my steam iron is gradually losing its functions, it won't spray now.
My question is, do any of you own a steam press.
If you do, would you recommend one, and which one?

DH bought me an ironing system consisting of large ironing board and steam iron with reservoir attached. I find it heavy and unwieldy and have put it in a cupboard as I won't use it!

I had a steam press and also bought one for our daughter, but I found that I didn't use it much, so sold it on Gumtree.

Mr B does all the ironing while listening to his music and seems quite happy with our John Lewis Ironing board and steam iron.

DD has one, she is thrilled with it and says it does nearly everything she needs to do. I can’t remember which one it is but the important bit is the reservoir. I think we went to Curry’s and choose the one with the biggest reservoir.

I rarely do any ironing .I think a steam press is useful if you run a B and B or have a large family but not for retired people.

I don't iron, aside from very very special occasions and when item requires it. I put everything on plastic coat hangers when it comes out of wash so creases drop out and I don't have a tumbler drier. Just keep up with it.

However for steamers and such and indeed fold up heated driers which can be cheap to run, I would turn to Lakeland

The one in the link is not cheap and I haven't tried it. But I always find it reassuring to buy things at Lakeland because

they are guaranteed
delivery is good and returns
plus they do have a loyalty card where you get decent money off and vouchers every so often.

And the reviews tell you quite a bit about the product.

I use a steam iron with a separate reservoir. Ive had one since they first came out and I had a house ful of children.

This is maybe my 3rd and I think I it is much easier to iron than with a standard steam iron. We thought about a press when the children were still at home but never quite got round to it.

My ironing board is a Brabantia (approx 25 years old) and I am on my 3 or 4th cover.

Tell him to do the ironing otherwise he's wasted his money. grin

I’ve used a Polti steam generator for a few years now. Fill the ‘boiler’ then use the handset which is quite light to ‘iron’ while it’s attached to the ‘boiler’ by a long cord.
Bit of a palaver but very effective. Best advantage is it’s impossible to burn anything! X

I’ve got one in the airing cupboard in its box, too heavy to keep lifting out for me now, Plus nowhere to put it apart from on the dining room table, so I’ll probably have to test it to make sure it still works, then get rid of it.

I usually only iron tee shirts, trousers and pillowcases nowadays and my trusty old ironing board and iron are just fine.

No press but top of the range power steam iron with waer container in base. So so much better than normal steam irons. I love crisp high quality linen for sheets, etc, and also for clothing, and denim- and that really cuts the mustard.

My mil was a tough cookie - and not an easy mil to have, even less a mother. But I thank her so often (she is long gone, but still) - as she taught her sons to iron,, replace buttons, stitch hems, etc. Mothers have a huge influence on the attitude of their sons towards housework, etc.

Some years ago whe I needed to replace my iron we decided to get a press. The only one I could find locally was in Argos. I used it - the only place suitable was the kitchen table. It was good for bedding once they were folded and I was able to manage shirts. The only thing I could not do was a small hem which curled on things such as tea towels - you need to hold them as you iron and that was impossible. A small thing I know but it annoyed the h**l out of me!
I took it back within the two weeks because each time I used it I had severe back ache - the set up was obviously all wrong for me. I bought a steam iron with a separate reservoir and have never looked back.
