Help calm me. House buying and selling stress

All this talk about holidays. Reminds me I had promised myself a holiday when I have finished the bungalow. Nowhere so far afield as New Zealand or Canada. Just to west coast of Ireland. Last holiday I had was in 2005 and that was only because my husband made me promise to go on holiday next year. I went to York for 4 days. It was the first time I had ever gone on holiday by myself and first time going into a pub on my own. I was 46. Had many more firsts since.

It can be done but it takes a lot of planning ( under statement ?) Something to think and dream about this winter.

Oopsadaisy, Canada is wonderful. We went several years ago. We decided to do a tour which combined road/rail (12 days) and sea (7 days). Vancouver was our start and finish point and we went as far east as Banff and Jasper where we travelled on the Rocky Mountaineer back to Vancouver then joined the cruise ship for a week of cruising Alaska and the Inside Passage. It was amazing and well worth the cost. I would love to go back and explore the east coast but I’m not sure I could manage the travel involved now.

Shandy you must really look after your dog to get to 12 . Is he your first dog or have you always had dogs? I am not a pet person . When the children were young we had goldfish and hamsters. Until my son had their dogs I was frightened of them. Got attacked twice as a child. Not bitten but the first time I was about 4 and it pinned me against railing until my mom hit it and it ran off. Second time I was at junior school there was a large playing field behind the school and I was with friends 2 Alsatians ran at us. My friends were quicker they knocked me down and won't let me up. My friends got help but the owner was never found. After that I was scared. My husband had a dog and cat as a child but never wanted one as an adult. Tried not to show any fear when we had the children as I didn't want to pass my fear to them. When my son and daughter in law had their dogs they used to put them in their cages when I visited. But I decided I had to get over my fear. So we worked out a plan and I conquered my fear in a day. This was years ago now. I have no fear of dogs of any size now.
I was always fine with cats.

Since Covid it is sad to see how many dogs and cats that have been abandoned. But some of the rehoming centres have said there has been an increase in single people re homing a dog or cat. With so much closing they want the company. I know my friends 4 cats give her a reason to keep going everyday. And keeps her in a routine.

We all have to find a way to cope with this new way of life. Was going out this week but not going to. Got a Sainsbury's delivery coming next week so don't need to really go to the shops. Plenty of Christmas crafting to do. And will still be able to see my daughter and family as we are each others bubble.

I will, I've just found my map. My chiropodist stayed in Singapore for a few nights when she went, I'll probably do that too.

My daughter went to Uni in Canada the year my husband died, I was like a zombie then and only managed a five day visit where she was staying in the Ontario area. I really liked it. I do recommend Riviera Travel, expensive but worth every single penny, we had a fantastic, unforgettable time in India.

Start planning now and by the time you can go you will be ready, DH wants to go to Canada, he wanted to go this year but we left it too late to plan, this was in January, thank goodness we didn’t try to book hotels for next year.

Got to look forward and hope for the best.

Hi Whiff he's just 12 today He's aged a lot since my daughter left home, he misses her terribly. I don't play with him like she did, I do make an effort every night when we get back from his last walk.

Shandy never heard you so positive before. Hope your dog gets better. How old is he?

Evening all, just back from a hair raising 'halloween night' dog walk. Huge groups of people knocking at doors - ? I can't understand it, and a lot of people obviously don't want to open their doors as a lot are in complete darkness tonight.

Thanks for asking about my dog craftyone - blood again today, will be back at the vets on Monday The tube of pro kolin ran out this morning. He is in his twilight years, I will be very careful with him. Talking of that I was told the golf club car park is to be labelled as private. I wrote to the club secretary and asked if I could buy a visitor pass - he said he doesn't have a problem with me parking there. Glad to hear it, I still feel angry they wouldn't refund my late husband's unused annual membership, it was £650. Didn't mention that, of course!

I've just caught up with you Oopsadaisy4, and know where you are coming from. Ever heard of the hoopoe bird that occasionally goes off course and ends up here? That's us. I've tried to 'bloom where I'm planted' but also yearn for that feeling when I walked down my local High Street in Whitton, in Middlesex. I can never go back either. I'm going to move into the new bungalow, make sure it's bomb proof, and when there is a proven vaccine, go off round the world in the most ethical, non polluting way I can.

Not really restless, I haven’t enjoyed living up here at all, but the deal was that we would go home and that’s what I’ve been looking forward too, now that we aren’t it’s making me want to go back even more!
Anyway this conversation is done to death, we aren’t moving and I’m normally ok, now we are in lockdown again there is no chance of going anywhere at all.
Some are worse off than me.

that oopsadaisy is sad really, it means that you are not a content soul. I understand about roots, the roots that we develop from where we lived when young and where our family lived. It sounds to me as though you could do with changing the energy flow in your home, it sounds very static. Moving a few bits of furniture, changing a few simple colours eg cushions and rugs. Taking old plants out and adding new ones perhaps. Ambient lighting. Try a few tweaks to one room and see if you can fall in love with where you live now

Thanks Shandi I know there are others who are far worse off than me,but when I go back home I can exhale, sounds daft, but I feel lighter and happier. When we come back it feels like a weight is back on me.
Crazy but there you go, I’ve not lived in this house for 40 years just the county, so the house is fine, it’s just me.

my last village, there were 4 houses for sale when I left in early 2019. They were all still for sale a few weeks ago and today they are all sold. I think this is the covid effect. A rural village in a rural sw county. I shall find out in time

Franbern the local libraries here have allsorts of forms to claim for various things. That's where I got mine. Where I used to live had to go the place and do it all in person .

Whiff, sorry to go back to your comments to oopsadaisy but I think you are entirely missing the point.

I know where she is coming from, it's not a question of a lovely home, a good area, it's that she doesn't feel 'right' and not living where her roots are.

I can empathise, I feel exactly the same and apart from a different timescale could have written her post myself.

oopsadaisy for you, it's hard to explain to others unless you have been, or are in, the same situation.

Whiff, there does not seem to be that facility here. I managed to do that three years ago, back in Waltham Forest, but even then it was being discouraged. And, the form I have been completing on-line is much, much longer than anything I completed previously.
Last time, it caused me great stress. I did not have any current letters, etc to support my claim, so was told I would have to attend an assessment - which was fine by me. However, the only person who did those assessments for the borough left her job and they took three months to fill that post. Took me past the date for renewal, even though I had started it with loads of time to spare. Got myself very upset and worked up - particularly as in the first instance I could not get any reply as to what was happening. When they did appoint someone, I got my assessment and my badge arrived within 48 hours of that.
Hope it will all be reasonably straight forward this time, although at present the only time I use it is for my weekly supermarket shop. Do not go anywhere else in a car these days.
I have my daughter popping over to me tomorrow to check my on-line application - often helps to have someone else to cast an eye over these sort of things. Sometimes, we get so used to physical problems we have, we forget that they are actually there.

Franbern they do what I do and fill out the paper application form and post it off. Mine is also due for renewal in January.

Sun came out gorgeously this afternoon. But, had decided to have a day at home so that is what I am doing.
Craftyone - yes, it is a proper quote I am getting for the flooring, I had the estimate when I went into the warehouse. Whatever the price I am given now will be ready for me to have it carried out in February.
Nearly completed my Blue Badge renewal application form. My goodness, fortunate that I am reasonably computer literate - do wonder how people manage these days with such applications if they are not - or, indeed, do not have access to computers and scanning machines.

Had 6 plants delivered today. So donned my waterproof trousers coat and wellies and braved the weather. My home improvements guys said they where coming to fix my new gate today which was lucky. I stepped on one of the large rocks in the rockery to put a rubber thingy on top of a cane and slipped and ended up on the lawn. Luckily landed on my bum. Phoned them to see if they were on their way. Which luckily they were and picked me up. I wasn't hurt so finished putting in the last 2 plants. Proved how good my waterproof things are I was nice and dry after sitting on my artificial lawn for quarter of a hour. As you might expect when I told me daughter I got a telling off.

I love this home of mine but am not tied to it and will not be spending any money on upgrades. DD in the next county and her husband have, after 7 years, finally managed to do up bits of their home and I have heard them say, `will be better if we decide to sell`. Now I know this would not be while the children are at comp, so another 7 1/2 years and then they would have to get jobs elsewhere. I know they want to go to cumbria, where we used to live, they are outdoorsy, sporty people. They would want somewhere more isolated, I wouldn`t but I would definitely move up there, rather than have to travel for many hours just to get to cumbria. I would follow them, no question

I love somerset but really my heart is up in the north west, wherever I am, I am content, it is always the best way to be
