No Tesco delivery slots for November

I have been getting weekly delivery slots from Tesco since March, either priority or fixed.
I usually book three weeks ahead on a Saturday morning.
This morning I went in as usual and there are no delivery slots available right up until 13th November. ?
The last one I have booked is 6th November.

Could they be blocking for Christmas?

mamacaz, I’m confused as well

When I log in to my accounts, there are always 4 sets of weekly slots.
At the beginning of Lockdown, when I was shielding, I couldn't get any deliveries from anyone.
Once I had access to priority delivery slots, I could book up to three weeks ahead, which was great,a s I knew I couldn't go anywhere.

When we came out of lockdown, I was stll advised not to go near supermarkets or busy places, so I kept getting deliveries. The availibility increased to four weeks ahead.
On a Saturday morning, I always book for four weeks time. There are always lots of slots, which only become available for me on a Saturday morning, as I get my delivery on a Friday.
For the first time ever today, I couldn't book a slot for four weeks ahead.
If I went on first thing, as I always do, how could all the slots be gone for four weeks time?
This is the first time since March, I couldn't get a slot, any slot! The whole week of 7th-13th of November is fully booked. No priority, fixed time or flexible slots.

Gosh. I couldn't manage without my weekly slot - from the local farm shop as it happens.

Even then I sometimes run out of fresh fruit and veg, milk, bread. Tuesdays is usually a tinned day.

Perhaps we just eat a lot of fresh stuff?

I posted a simple question, not expecting to open a can of worms.
I would give anything to wander around a supermarket and just browse. Life is rubbish enough, without having to be answerable to people I don't even know and who know nothing about my circumstances.
What on earth has happened to GN these days?

Dorsetcupcake61 Sat 17-Oct-20 14:56:30

I have noticed they only seem to book a week or so ahead for a while. Maybe with current unsettled situation they dont want all the slots fully booked for weeks on end.
I dont drive and have ordered groceries online for a decade. Pre covid I would sometimes shop in town and get a taxi back. I'm in a high risk group and options are now limited. During February and March I made sure I had the basics for 12 weeks. For me and my two cats. I remember feeling that if I was short of anything I could always do an online delivery. How wrong I was, there was nothing for weeks and weeks! I'm lucky ,my daughter lives close by and I have lovely neighbours but I wouldn't have wanted to ask them to do a full shop for me. I live on my own so it can be tricky to balance as often it's only the top up things you need. Still I'm a big fan of long life milk and I wont starve. If you cant access shops easily or at all it is very worrying though. Goodness knows what will happen next year with impact of Brexit plus problems covid and weather have caused food production.

What on earth has happened to GN these days?

I think we are all feeling beleaguered, Marydoll. I'm sorry if my post came across as getting at you - it wasn't, but I did feel a bit triggered by the memories of the last lockdown and the constant sniping at other people and their shopping habits.

I think we all need to take a step back (me included) and remember that everyone is just doing what they have to do, and if they don't like the way we are doing things we should ignore them. I did let the judging get to me last time - I am not able to go to the shops either, and being stuck in since March is enough to fray anyone's temper.

MamaCaz Sat 17-Oct-20 15:04:14

How strange, Marydoll!

I'm presuming you have looked again since then, to check that they hadn't been late in fully loading the Friday slots, perhaps due to some technical hitch.
There are slots available for that date in my area, so it's not a nationwide thing.

Good luck. I hope you get the slot you need

Hello Marydoll I got one on the Tesco site this morning for 12th November. There were plenty. I wonder if it depends on which area we are in. I don't think it's anything to do with Christmas. They have given out the dates when they will be releasing Christmas slots. It's not until November.

Kate1949 Sat 17-Oct-20 15:09:40

I've just had another quick look and they have several, right up to 13th November. Very strange.

Marydoll Sat 17-Oct-20 15:09:49

I didn't think that of you Doodlebug, so don't worry.

I never even really got out of shielding and am sick of all the nastiness and unpleasantness throughout GN at the moment.
Thank goodness for the nicer posters, who show compassion and kindness. It costs nothing.

All I ask was did anyone know why there were no slots.
I pass my time baking treats for my lovely neighbours, who have been so good to me throughout shielding. I like to reciprocate that kindness.
Therefore, I NEED flour, eggs, margarine, sugar etc.

I'm sorry I posted in the first place.

I still have delivery slots available from Tesco. I did cancel my delivery pass with them as they had no slots from March to September. Slots became available about 4 to 6 weeks ago. they did not give priority to either regular or vulnerable customers.
I now use Sainsburys or Iceland if Sainsburys has no slots.

Kate1949 Sat 17-Oct-20 15:15:18

Take no notice Marydoll . We've been getting slots every 10 days. I don't consider it taking slots from less able people. There are usually several slots when I book.

Kate1949 Sat 17-Oct-20 15:17:02

Oh yes I second that about Iceland. At the start of the pandemic we couldn't get slots anywhere but Iceland always had them. They are great. Free delivery if you spend £35.

MamaCaz Sat 17-Oct-20 15:20:33

I looked at ordering from Iceland when other supermarket slots were hard to get, but when I put my post code in, I got a message saying they don't deliver to my area. Later that very same day i saw one of their vans go past our house confused

Ashcombe Sat 17-Oct-20 15:26:47

I have had home deliveries from Asda or used Click and Collect. During lockdown, I discovered that slots would be released about 10.00 pm each evening, possibly after closing time at my nearest store. Now, I can usually book during the day more easily and often pay only £2.00 for delivery, if I choose the time carefully.

growstuff Sat 17-Oct-20 15:32:41

I already have one booked for 7th November. I've just been on to the site and there are deliveries on all days at all times from 8th-13th November.

Marydoll Sat 17-Oct-20 15:37:44

Thanks growstuff, so it has to be do with my area. That's all I wanted to know.

Callistemon Sat 17-Oct-20 15:39:40

I think it must be local to your postcode because I was on the Tesco site 1 minute ago and no slots have appeared for after 6th November.

Well I ordered so much stuff over Lockdown, which I didn't NEED, so I shall just live off that. wink

Puzzler61 Sat 17-Oct-20 15:57:30

I have been a long time delivery pass paying, Sainsbury’s Home Delivery shopper. Through lockdown they allowed me one slot per 7 days.
When things relaxed after lockdown that rule relaxed, but now with the fear of another total lockdown , and Christmas ahead, the supermarkets may pare back again and not show slots so far ahead.
M&S have released (and already filled) pre Xmas slots, but they are to be collected only - not for home delivery (in my area).

Marydoll please don’t upset yourself - you answer to no one about the way you prefer to shop.
If you can check the Tesco website at random times of day (and night if you wake part way through as I do), you’ll be bound to secure pre Christmas slots at end of Oct. or November. ?

Nortsat Sat 17-Oct-20 16:02:40

Marydoll in east London ( a long way away from you, I know ), I have just booked a slot for 9th November. There are priority and non priority slots up to Friday 13th November.

Our Tesco slots have never been available more than 4 weeks in advance. We also learned during Lockdown that the next batch of slots become available at 12.01, so we used to set our alarms for 11.30pm, to be ready to grab a slot at 12.01.
We haven’t needed to do this for a month or two now.
But we’ve never been able to book more than 4 weeks ahead.

Sorry to see the thread getting somewhat fractious. I agree with you that kindness is generally the best policy.

Can I ask about Iceland? Do they deliver in a van that keeps stuff frozen?

I haven't had a freezer since March when the kitchen was ripped out, but now at last I have one. An empty one.

I ordered so e frozen stuff from Sainsbury but when it arrived it was soft so that's no good. OH and I had to eat six Magnums in one go!

Would Iceland stuff arrive frozen. Our nearest Iceland is about 20 minutes away.

welbeck Sat 17-Oct-20 17:04:58

you could have complained about that to sainsburys, and they should credit you or it.
all delivery vehicles have sections or chilled and for frozen foods. more likely something left out by pickers in warehouse, before being loaded onto van.
if anybody ought to know about frozen food, and how to keep it in optimum condition, it would be Iceland, one would hope !
check and reject if not.
