Cordless vacuum wanted but which one?

I’m finding that my vacuum is really heavy and making my arm ache like billyo. I’ve been looking for a light cordless and can’t decide between Shark, Gtech, etc etc. They all sound marvellous until you read the reviews and they are all unsatisfactory in one way or another.

We bought our D the Gtech handheld to clean the car and she thinks it’s wonderful but on reading the reviews for the full size one, there’s so many faults found with it. I don’t particularly need a pet version and obviously it’s just for running around the carpet/wooden floor and picking up bits. I think a good old fashioned Ewbank is what I need, if there still is such a thing but with a motor! Any ideas or advice please?

Tech for me, both upright and hand held, both in use for many years, some parts replaced but still the original shells and battery. Used daily but only need recharged about once a week.

I have a Shark and love it although it tends to jam up with dog hair.

Which? have just announced their top 50 products of the year from the 3500 they have tested and this one is number 2 on the list.

I have a Dyson which was reduced from £320 to £180 and it is rubbish.

My local electrical repair man refuses to try to repair anything made by Dyson. He says they are made so badly that repairs are not worth doing.
He also says that he gets requests to repair more Dysons than any other make.

Gtech AirRam for me, both upright and hand held. Had it for three years. Can do all upper floor of 5 bed house and hard floors downstairs on one charge. Two lots of stairs and odd bits with hand held. Very light and easy to use.

I have a G-tech upright battery model type ATF, that takes apart to create a small vac for stairs and car.
I can’t compare to other brands as I never owned/used them, but I do have two comments (otherwise great to use):
1. The suction is not brilliant and to get decent suction I have to empty the container when it is one third full.
2. This is just an irritation: how much easier it would be if there was a wall hanging /charging holder so it automatically charges when not in use. It has no hanger and won’t stand up on its own, and the charger is fiddly and frequently goes awol. So, I feel much better now as I’ve wanted to have that gripe for ages!?

Dyson for me too -it's expensive but really good.

Luckygirl Tue 17-Nov-20 10:23:35

Not Dyson - suction fine, construction flimsy - I had to send back twice for replacement of the brittle plastic parts.

Flytothestars Tue 17-Nov-20 10:24:35

Shark - excellent - my husband loves it ?

Milliedog Tue 17-Nov-20 10:24:56

I bought a Gtech because one of my daughters was pleased with hers. It's great - holds a long charge, light to shine on the carpet, goes right under my low bed and sofas. Wish mine had an attachment to reach into nooks and crannies but my much heavier Dyson does that.

Love my Gtech and their customer service is second to none ,,, the motor on mine broke down a month out of warranty buy the still replaced it free of charge .. very easy to clean, charges quickly and is very light

We have just bought a Dyson Cyclone (I think it's called) Which voted it the best cleaner they have ever tested.
We have no complaints so far. Much easier than dragging a corded Meile around which we have put away and may use for spring cleaning.

My GTech Air Ram is far better than a Ewebank and its brilliant for quick clear ups in the kitchen and over carpets.

About a year ago we bought my late Mum a John Lewis cordless vacuum cleaner. She was 101 and found it very easy to use. It was only about £120 and had excellent reviews. Well worth considering

I've a Dyson but not impressed. The battery went capoot and I'm on my 2nd brush head. There's is only myself and the dog and she doesn't cast, in fact I'm the one that casts. I had looked at the Gtec and wish I had of tried it. Two of my chums have had to replace batteries in their Dysons too as they don't last long. I'm lucky to get around my bungalow before the charge runs out with this battery that's not long new.

I bought Morphy Richatds Supervac to keep upstairs. It is very good at picking up & is lightweight. Only minor fault is it has a small dust collection box.

Dyson Absolute but won't buy another. Expensive, performance was always lacking from the start. Had an engineer out to it during 1st year, it needed all sorts of replacement bits and it's never been much better since. Convenient to use but that's about all.

I bought a Vax Oh what a delight I should have bought one years ago.
It amazes me how it picks up right up to the skirting and kick board in the kitchen.
I've never used it on boost yet it is too powerful.
I can go round for about 20 minutes and it's still got the full power lights showing when I finish.
I also have their carpet cleaner another plus.
I just cleaned 6 carpets in my sons house(he's just moved in), can't believe the amount of dirt which came out.

I’ve got a dyson and love it, I also have an iRobot- brilliant.

Arry Tue 17-Nov-20 10:56:30

Have had my GTech for 5 or 6 years, never had a problem with it. Love it

SillyNanny321 Tue 17-Nov-20 10:59:07

Always had Vax & thought they were very good. Then got a discount on a Dyson. So far so good. Nearly a year on & no problems. My neighbour also has one & loves it.

catwoman Tue 17-Nov-20 11:07:29

On my second dyson stick. Old one I bought a replacement battery & son has it still going strong. Have the big Dyson one but found it too heavy. Cordless all the way for convenience.

Yangste1007 Tue 17-Nov-20 11:08:21

Dyson, no contest. We had a GTech before and still it but the Dyson is much better made.

Bazza Tue 17-Nov-20 11:12:06

I bit the bullet and bought a top of the range Dyson two years ago, which was ridiculously expensive. I’m on my second brush head, replaced under guarantee. I do have to say though that I’m very pleased with it. It’s out of guarantee now though, so I hope it’s going to be ok. The pleasure of just taking it off the charger instead of getting a corded one out from under the stairs, undoing the flex, plugging it in, tripping over the flex, messy emptying, is immense.

Pamaga Tue 17-Nov-20 11:13:41

We have a GTech. I had a Dyson before but prefer the GTech.
