OK. I confess. It’s taken me two Ovenmate packs to clean my oven. I left it soaking overnight. Cleaned what I could but deffo wasn’t happy so I’m leaving it for it’s second soak at the moment I’m hoping it’s only two soaks that will do it!

Any other oven slobs here?

No oven cleaning services here unfortunately so the base tray is lined with foil -easy. Then the rest is down to elbow grease and brillo pads probably once a month.
Pizzas, roasts etc all contribute to making the oven dirty MOnica my husband must be a messy cook!!

It costs around £90 to get a professional in to clean my oven so that happens about once every 3 years but a friend gave the name of somebody who does it for half of that price so that will be the next task here I think.

I use an oven liner on the bottom of the oven and put the shelves in the dishwasher, which unfortunately doesn't get all the stains off; but if you take the shelves out of the dishwasher as soon as the wash cycle has finished and before the drying cycle begins, the remaining stains just easily wipe off if you use a scourer. Takes 5 minutes.

Why do your ovens get so dirty? What is everyone cooking in their ovens that makes them so dirty? I cook casseroles and stews, although a lot now get done in the slow cooker, baked and roast potatoes, reheat food that needs to be crisp and the very occasional cake and roast. Nothing to make an oven really dirty.

I have self-cleaning linings on the sides of my oven and occasionally give the bottom a wipe. It just doesn't get very dirty.

Sugar soap works wonders on ovens, tiles, woodwork and drains, and it’s reasonably priced and doesn’t smell.

Year! Not week.

Ah. I was soooo impressed !

I use my oven as a store cupboard, never cook in it, so it never gets dirty. Only cook on the hob. I had a rich friend once who never cleaned her oven. When it became really dreadful she bought a new one. Seriously!!! I still can't get over that!!

NonnaLor. That picture of a steak in between the glass made me think you were the slobbiest so far. ?

Jane10 Mon 04-Jan-21 07:52:05

Oh. Do ovens need cleaning? blush

NonnaLor Sun 03-Jan-21 20:53:35

CrazyH - streak not steakgrin

Ohmother Sun 03-Jan-21 20:52:48

Hetty58. I’ve heard of them and after today I might consider spending £70 if it’s for a double oven, but I’m not sure it is.

I’ve still got crud stuck to the roof of one oven. I’ve done it 3 times now!

Ohmother, luckily, around here (N London/Essex border) there are plenty of oven-cleaning companies.

One's actually called 'Grease Lightening', so amusing too.

They take all the dirty oven parts out to their little van and steam them clean - brilliant!

crazyH Sun 03-Jan-21 20:06:06

NonnaLor - how on earth did you manage to get a steak in there?

NonnaLor Sun 03-Jan-21 19:57:43

I’ve only had my oven 2 months and today I’ve had to take the door off to clean it as there was a big greasy steak between the door and the glass. Struggled to release the top edging off that releases the glass. This is where the vent is that seems to let the grease in / bit of a design fault me thinks! confused

The older three were old enough to do their own anyway, ages 14-16
I haven`t and he does.

I never clean my oven. I pay an oven valet to do it, and they come two or three times a week.

Callistemon Sun 03-Jan-21 15:20:56

It's £70 a time here.

grandMattie Sun 03-Jan-21 14:56:30

Too mean to pay a man. Sainsbury’s makes an excellent spray on/wash off cleaner which I use when I start to feel embarrassed...

GrannyGravy13 Sun 03-Jan-21 14:49:47

I get a man in three times a year he does a brilliant job, cleans ovens, grill and hobs, sorted ??

MagicWand Sun 03-Jan-21 14:36:57

I confess it, I am an oven slob, although I clean the hob, I don't clean my oven, just brush out the burnt knarley bits on the bottom every so often. blush

But I have been thinking about employing a professional oven cleaning service for the past 5 or 6yrs or so! I usually think I'll get someone in at the beginning of December, then think it would be better if they came after all the Christmas cooking, then with everything else that's going on forget about it until the thought cycle starts again around November! Perhaps without much to distract this year, I'll get round to it if the rusty fairy hasn't put me off for another year or so!

I take comfort from the fact that my aunt never cleaned her oven and produced wonderful tasty food. She maintained that food cooked in a clean oven would be flavourless.

In my old house I had a built in oven which had a setting that burnt all the marks off. I used to use it approx. every 6 months and it kept everything sparkling.
In my new house which was 4 years old, when I moved 2 years ago, everything was bog standard. The oven is underneath the gas rings and again is bog standard. I wouldn't be able to bend down to clean it very well so in the 2 years that I have lived here I have'nt bothered.
The kitchen is not big enough to have a built in oven so I have decided that I will be contacting an oven cleaning co. very shortly. It will work out cheaper to have the oven cleaned annually than to buy a new oven.
So I am most definitely an oven slob.

Some bad luck there therustyfairy beware the fire pit could be the end of your house smile

I think I've got an aerosol spray of something like Oven Pride in the cupboard under the kitchen sink and I don't believe it's moved from its place for around five years. Clearly it hasn't killed me yet. I'd better go and look at it, hadn't I? Then put it back for another time.
