OK. I confess. It’s taken me two Ovenmate packs to clean my oven. I left it soaking overnight. Cleaned what I could but deffo wasn’t happy so I’m leaving it for it’s second soak at the moment I’m hoping it’s only two soaks that will do it!

Any other oven slobs here?

blushblush
OH cleans mine but not very often

I used to be. When I was working, something had to give and the oven was one of the gives. My cleaner lady was better employed doing other stuff.

Then I had a complete new kitchen. It’s 3 years old now and the oven in like new. I give it a clean every week. Takes a maximum of 10 minutes.

Have you heard of commercial oven cleaner? I use them about twice a year and they tell that mine is nothing like the worst they gave seen. blush

How can you be a slob if you’ve bothered to clean it yourself?

A fully paid up slob would a) not bother, or b) eventually get A Man In (best £40 I ever spent but that was ages ago), or c) do like an ex colleague’s sister - left it until the sight of it was too much even for her, and bought a new one!

Yep. Hate cleaning it. Bit like other housework and gardening, I like things to look nice but I hate doing it. I'd rather read a book!

I don't clean mine often enough, but when I do I use Oven Pride which works very well and is almost a pleasure!

That's why I keep putting off cleaning my oven. I want a new one.

Jaxjacky Sun 03-Jan-21 13:32:55

kittykester I too get a professional in to do it. So Witzend I am a fully paid up slob!

Iam64 Sun 03-Jan-21 13:33:10

I had a professional oven cleaner here in early December. Why oh why did I never do this before. I will have her back in six months, then again early December. Worth every penny.

My late father was the master of the sweeping statement, and always said you would never get a ‘right good dinner’ in a house with a sparkling clean cooker!

Sunlover Sun 03-Jan-21 13:53:53

Worth spending the money to get someone in to do it professionally.

NotSpaghetti Sun 03-Jan-21 13:56:16

I have an oven with a sort-of "burn" setting.
Everything falls off as dust and I just pretty much sweep it out.

The shelves go occasionally in the dishwasher... I would definitely be an oven slob if I hadn't got this type of oven!

therustyfairy Sun 03-Jan-21 14:07:53

I had a professional in to clean the oven, he got water into the oven light which blew the fuses, he was unable to fix the oven so we had to buy a new oven - best to just use the microwave I though, purchased a new microwave in July and thats on the blink now, think a fire pit is less trouble

cornishpatsy Sun 03-Jan-21 14:12:00

I wrap foil around the drip tray and shelves and cook what I can in a roasting bag. My oven stays cleanish.

B9exchange Sun 03-Jan-21 14:12:38

I have a sort of silicone mat that sits on the bottom of the oven, catches all the drips and spills, they just rinse off, and if I want to impress someone coming for dinner (those were the days!) I can just take it out to reveal a beautifully clean oven floor!

I think I've got an aerosol spray of something like Oven Pride in the cupboard under the kitchen sink and I don't believe it's moved from its place for around five years. Clearly it hasn't killed me yet. I'd better go and look at it, hadn't I? Then put it back for another time.

sodapop Sun 03-Jan-21 14:13:08

Some bad luck there therustyfairy beware the fire pit could be the end of your house smile

In my old house I had a built in oven which had a setting that burnt all the marks off. I used to use it approx. every 6 months and it kept everything sparkling.
In my new house which was 4 years old, when I moved 2 years ago, everything was bog standard. The oven is underneath the gas rings and again is bog standard. I wouldn't be able to bend down to clean it very well so in the 2 years that I have lived here I have'nt bothered.
The kitchen is not big enough to have a built in oven so I have decided that I will be contacting an oven cleaning co. very shortly. It will work out cheaper to have the oven cleaned annually than to buy a new oven.
So I am most definitely an oven slob.

I take comfort from the fact that my aunt never cleaned her oven and produced wonderful tasty food. She maintained that food cooked in a clean oven would be flavourless.

MagicWand Sun 03-Jan-21 14:36:57

I confess it, I am an oven slob, although I clean the hob, I don't clean my oven, just brush out the burnt knarley bits on the bottom every so often. blush

But I have been thinking about employing a professional oven cleaning service for the past 5 or 6yrs or so! I usually think I'll get someone in at the beginning of December, then think it would be better if they came after all the Christmas cooking, then with everything else that's going on forget about it until the thought cycle starts again around November! Perhaps without much to distract this year, I'll get round to it if the rusty fairy hasn't put me off for another year or so!

GrannyGravy13 Sun 03-Jan-21 14:49:47

I get a man in three times a year he does a brilliant job, cleans ovens, grill and hobs, sorted ??

grandMattie Sun 03-Jan-21 14:56:30

Too mean to pay a man. Sainsbury’s makes an excellent spray on/wash off cleaner which I use when I start to feel embarrassed...

Callistemon Sun 03-Jan-21 15:20:56

It's £70 a time here.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 03-Jan-21 15:28:34

I never clean my oven. I pay an oven valet to do it, and they come two or three times a week.
