Was just reading in a mag, that most people move 11 times in their lifetime, counted mine and it’s 9 , anticipate one more move downsizing( married Twice )

I think it’s 16. Yet we’ve been in our current house for 39 years.

I had to go back in time and count, t is 11 times. I didn't realise it was so many!

Only 5. Twice with my parents and then I moved in with my husband. We moved twice. Have been in our house over 50 years and probably should move. I wonder how far people have moved? I live no more than 20 miles from where I started but my husband was born over 200 miles away.

I've just worked out it's 8 mostly when I was a child. I've been in my current house 30 years.

29, father in forces, married into the forces.

Our last move to a bungalow with a lovely large garden was just over 2 years ago and it’s here I’m staying.

16 or 17 times at least! And that's after a quick count. A friend of mine complained as I'd filled up all the 'S' pages in her address book!

17 for me, 9 before marriage and 8 since marriage. No more planned but you never know. I have a recurring dream where we are moving house, it’s the day of the move and nothing is packed.

13.. but 15 if you count boarding school & post 18 student accommodation... 7 homes before marriage and 6 after...

At least 13 times, plus a couple of other short term stays.
Every single one of them in Devon.

emmasnan Sat 23-Jan-21 10:28:44

16 I think. Most when married as husband in forces.

Lovetopaint037 Sat 23-Jan-21 10:34:51

8 times but am old.

Trisha57 Sat 23-Jan-21 10:44:53

Only 4 times.

Grandmabatty Sat 23-Jan-21 11:05:51

16 times. This last move is to a bungalow and I don't anticipate having to move again.

ALT57 Sat 23-Jan-21 11:08:06

7 times

Pittcity Sat 23-Jan-21 11:14:34

About to move for the 4th time next month. I did move before I was born (in utero), does that count?

patcaf Sat 23-Jan-21 17:50:39

19 times. Never been in a house more than 7 years. Current house is 3 years and we are thinking we can get another two moves in before we settle. We are 68.

crazyH Sat 23-Jan-21 18:05:42

Until I was married, I lived in the same house that I was born in (home birth). After marriage, moved 5 times. Been here on my own, since 2008

Blondiescot Sat 23-Jan-21 18:09:25

Oh dear, am I the only one who still lives in the same house from birth? As my grandson currently lives with us, that makes five generations of my family who have lived here. And I love that...

I would love that too, Blondiescot. After 13 moves, it has been lovely for me to be able to put down roots where I am at the moment. For many years I felt rootless.

Barmeyoldbat Sat 23-Jan-21 18:44:57

27, an RAF dad as well and I caught the wandering bug when I left home but since I married I have only moved 4 times.

Iam64 Sat 23-Jan-21 18:53:16

16, most of these as a child. Like Barmeyoldbat, I had a father whose job meant regular moves. My last two moved took place in a two mile radius, first to buy a house with my husband so moved a Mike down the road. Then almost 30 years ago, we moved a mile up the road with our three children assorted dogs, cats and rabbits. We are still in that home - our girls live locally, after my nomadic childhood, it’s bliss

Blossoming Sat 23-Jan-21 18:55:57

Twelve. I’m not including long-term projects living and working in other countries, as my home remained wherever Mr. B was.

Greyduster Sat 23-Jan-21 19:00:14

If you count our various Army quarters, twelve! Not sure yet if this house will be the last - I fancy not!

SuzannahM Sat 23-Jan-21 19:04:13

Katek Since posting I've realised that in Singapore we actually lived in 3 houses in 3 years, and in Germany in 2 houses in 3 years grin

I have four brothers and whereas I got itchy feet and could never settle down they have all remained close to my parents. I loved the moving around, I remember when my father decided to leave the RAF having a real screaming paddy - we were supposed to be leaving for Cyprus and instead the whole family ended up squeezed in with the grandparents while my father looked for a job. Much as I loved it and I think it did make me more resilient and less likely to sweat the small stuff I have always envied people who have real roots, and friends they have known forever.

31 times in 63 years!
Exciting changes but very settled now.
