Was just reading in a mag, that most people move 11 times in their lifetime, counted mine and it’s 9 , anticipate one more move downsizing( married Twice )

About 22 - father RAF till I was 16, and this includes a number of returns to live with family in Wales in between postings. Had three flats in London, lived and worked in America and Australia and this is the fourth house OH and I have lived in. Until this house I had never lived in a house for more than five years. One more move next year when OH retires and I hope that's it.

8 - is it time to move again?

Callistemon Fri 22-Jan-21 20:43:45

10 - I didn't include stints au pairing.
But I didn't have to move furniture or all my belongings.

Probably 8 in total, half with my parents and half as an adult. I tend to stay a while 21 years in my current home with no plans to move. I was in my previous home for 18 years. Our first home together was only 4 years before moving up the ladder. I don't like moving that's for sure.

I am in my 15th property, three with my parents, three as a student and five in my first marriage, one in between, three in this marriage. Been seven years in this house so far and I expect it will be the last, unless I need to go into a care home eventually.

7. Been here since daughter was aged 9 and she is now 45. So this house is by far the one I've called home for the longest time. Possibly one more move in me.

grin Urmston! I hope not, as his wife is a lady of generous dimensions.

I love a move. Nothing like changing house, town, country for a shake up. I have itchy feet after a couple of years.

Casdon Fri 22-Jan-21 21:37:36

14 so far, I’d like to move again to somewhere smaller (but in the same area) when my son leaves home.

NotTooOld Fri 22-Jan-21 21:40:21

16 so far.

I've been in my current home for 23 years, but before moving here I'd had 18 moves. We talk about downsizing, but we have a large family who still stay over very often (when we're not in a pandemic), plus we usually have great numbers of lovely visitors.

Hellogirl1 Fri 22-Jan-21 22:04:17

10, the last move was over 35 years ago, don`t think there`ll be another.

SpringyChicken Fri 22-Jan-21 22:07:47

Twice! Once when I married and then six years later. Lived in the current house thirty eight years.

geekesse Fri 22-Jan-21 22:23:00

25. My Dad was RAF when I was born, then an ex-pat. I married another expat. It’s one reason I insisted on living in one place when the kids were growing up - I wanted them to have roots, which I never did. Even now, if I’m asked where I come from, the answer is ‘it’s complicated’.

BlueSapphire Fri 22-Jan-21 22:52:03

About 10, plus three postings to Singapore, Cyprus and Australia (and back home again) so 16 altogether. Plus we had moves between houses when posted abroad.

MiniMoon Fri 22-Jan-21 23:25:29

3. Moved out of parents when I married, and twice since.

This is the furthest I have lived from the place of my birth, and it is only eleven miles.

12 for me and I think there may be one more before I am done.

Yorkshire, The Wirral, Yorkshire, Bedfordshire, Hampshire. Total of 44 years in God's Own County, 9 each in Bedfordshire and Hampshire and 7 in The Wirral. That makes me see why I still feel my roots in in Yorkshire.

13, if I include student years in Birmingham.
Wilts., Surrey (2), Birmingham (3), Michigan, USA, Beds (2), Staffs (2), Torbay (2) with regular periods in DH's home in France since second marriage in 2015 (until the pandemic ☹️)

.*SuzannahM*. it’s not often I meet others with a similar peripatetic background
I often wonder if it made us more or less resilient. We certainly had to adapt and survive very quickly! One academic year I actually attended 3 schools in 3 terms - hard going.

7. Mum moved in with her in laws after she married dad, and I was a honeymoon baby. We lived with grandma and grandad until I was nearly one. They where given a new council house on the edge of the village. We lived there until I was four and my two sisters were born there.
Mum found living there hard. It was up a very steep hill and a long way from any shops. She was pregnant with my brother so they wanted to move into the village centre and buy their own place.
We all moved back in with DGP. Goodness knows how we all managed to fit in. Our baby brother was born there and we stayed for a few months so grandma could help mum out.
We moved into a small terraced house. It was too small right from the start but it was near to the school, post office, lots of shops and my DGP. Mum felt less isolated so I suppose it was the right thing to do.
We moved to a three bed just after I started secondary school. By then there was another baby sister. DB had the box room and us girls eventually had two bunks in the big bedroom.
I met DH who already had his own place. We lived there for a while then bought a little two bed nearer to where we both worked. I was determined we would have a 3 bed before we started our own family. I hated sharing with my younger sisters!
So we moved to where we have lived for 44 years. We have extended twice to accommodate our own family. It's much too big for us now. We really should down size but we love the big garden and it's been great to get out and grow veg during the first lock down.
We will probably move again but not until things get back to normal. Maybe that should be nearer normal. If we end up staying here so be it.
