Horrible problem. Any advice please.

Update. Used the enzyme cleaner and all seems good. Had to saturate with solution first. Laid it on plastic sheeting to do this. Had to towel dry. Turned it over once and then after a while lifted onto side and rested against wardrobe to dry thoroughly. Had to repeat with clean water. Dries remarkably quickly because I think the solution just runs through the springs.
Thought I would give update and details in case anyone else in same position in future.

Definitely get professional carpet cleaners in, their machines extract all liquid, not just rub it further in. They may have to re-wet it first, then extract, more hygienic, and won’t smell further down the line. Poor you, doing such a kind thing, then this happens ??

White vinegar has worked for me. You can get it in a spray bottle.

Coming a bit late to the party but the same thing happened when I locked my at in by mistake and she relieved herself on my bed. I got a professional cleaner to deal with it. Someone who usually cleans carpets. He did a good job.

vodka in a spray bottle will break down the bacteria and reduce the smell too

I hope the enzyme cleaner works, feel for you too, pets don’t like change so obviously it’s probably the upheaval that’s upset her, we always have feliway plug ins in our home, luckily we haven’t had this problem, hope it all sorts itself out for you

I'd second the Feliway to calm the cat. If the biological/enzyme cleaners don't work well enough, do consider using Hydrogen Peroxide.

I’ve just seen a similar problem on Facebook and someone has recommended something called wee away which is sold by the RSPCA. I didn’t know they sold animal products. It’s probably the same formulation as Simple Solutions though.

We've got Gökärt protectors from IKEA. Had them about 4 years now, washed at 60 degrees. They are soft, fit the mattresses and waterproof. We bought them with the new mattresses and I have had one accident on one bed when my cat bumped my tea cup out of my hand!! Washing the linen or the duvet when not necessary is dull, but anything on the mattress - and cat pee anywhere - is a nightmare. Fortunately our mattresses have remained as new!
Do hope your enzyme cleaner works - let's hope it's not a 'stable door' .....maybe let us know?

Sorry Nandalot, my cat pee'd in the lounge when I had the house on the market, she is 16 and the stress of viewings had got to her. Have you got a Feliway plug in in the bedroom? I bought one and have found she is very relaxed and comfortable in this rental.

The best way to get rid of cat pee smells is biological washing powder, the enzymes in it break down the fats which cause the pong.

Grandma French, I was using a mattress protector but just a fabric quilted cover. Shall get a waterproof one now (stable door!)
Bluebelle, yes hopefully now schools are going back DD can return home. We thought cat would be all right as she usually spends all her time inside and usually on an upstairs window ledge or on a bed. ( She will only go in the garden if we are out!). She has been a very spoilt cat up till now as our two previous cats were not allowed upstairs at all let alone on the bed!

Simple Solution do a range of products that should help. Also Dr Beckman pet stain and odour.

GrandmaFrench the solution I bought is no longer made but I am certain others on offer will do the job equally well.

I don’t usually advise insurance fraud but is your daughters puppy insured? Given that it was direct result of having the puppy in the house might her insurance cover you? You could say the puppy had wee’d on the bed.

Nandalot if you don't have a mattress cover, do get one. We have waterproof ones which are very fine, soft and made of a rubbery backed cotton towelling. Ours are from IKEA and not expensive. They give just the reassurance you need if you've invested in a new mattress - and in dire emergencies, at least you've then only the bedding to wash!

I had a similar problem and I looked on Amazon and bought something which I sprayed on my bed. It took two applications and about a week or more for both to dry but I ended up with a perfect mattress, no smell and no stain. It did take forever to dry as I said, I had to apply x2.
