North facing living room

If you have grey and blue I would introduce some yellow. With a north facing room just having blue and grey will make it feel a bit cold but yellows bring in brightness and warmth. Blue, grey and yellow look lovely together.

I would be looking at a light duck egg blue but everyone’s tastes are different. Certainly have a white ceiling and light walls to maximise the light.
I have a bay windowed north facing dining room and we had grass at the front which proved very difficult to stop the moss taking over so we removed the grass and replaced it with white stones. We couldn’t believe the difference it made to the dining room.

You need a bright colour such as bright pink or bright blue etc or the yellow as mentioned above but I admit I'm not a fan of yellow.

I’m with Shropshirelass on this one - definitely some yellow, gold accents will warm the room up ?

I think it depends on the ‘look’ you want. North,facing, grey carpet, blue sofa immediately says seas to me and I’d team it with a sand colour or driftwood.

But that might not appeal.

Mustard yellow seems very much on trend, too, and works well with grey and dark blue. Strategically placed mirrors and occasional lamps can also help create an illusion of light. Perhaps you could post photos when it’s completed.

We painted our north facing living room white then added bright furnishings to give a warmer feel, reds, lemons and pale brown (beige sounds awful)

Grey and mustard are very on trend!

We are not fans of any sort of yellow so our north facing lounge has deep raspberry walls, wjite ceiling and woodwork, grey sofa and I chair, pink velvet 'reading chair' and very pale grey carpet. The curtains are pinks on a white background with some matching cushions and some contrasting one. As our room is high we only painted the walls up to picture rail height although we sont have a picture rail.

As you can probably tell - I love the room. It is warm and welcoming.

Ditch the grey as other posters suggest you need warm tones, a fudge or sand carpet will lift the room instead of grey.
A large mirror over a fireplace and some yellow/gold/mustard walls.

Would you be overlooked if the living room curtains were not drawn ? My curtains would have been very expensive and possibly too heavy for the curtain pole, if I had bought some that could be pulled across.
My curtains now are just for show and frame the french doors and the two small windows, which is fine as no one can look in.

Something light,especialy as it`s north facing.
A nice ivory i think would be in-keeping with the furniture and carpets.

My lounge gets no natural light due to an extension and I found that having the walls painted white made a massive difference even though they were cream before. I use brightly coloured accessories and pictures to add warmth and colour, mainly red, yellow and light green - garden colours!

I would not have grey in a north facing room, particularly not with a dark blue sofa. Go for cream, sand, pale yellow and ochre/ rust tones and light neutrals.

We have similar colour furnishings Susiewakie grey carpet, blue sofas also grey vertical blinds, the walls are the ubiquitous magnolia. But the ‘hard’ furniture, TV unit, coffee table, bookcase and side tables are light oak, this breaks it up and the vertical blinds, when open, let in lots of light. They can also be half closed as we are west facing.

The painter here has just begun to prep our very large N/E facing room. It gets the morning sun.

I have chosen a pale dove blue/grey! I find those shades soothing. He has suggested a white ceiling. Is that a good idea?
I think it will make the room seem even bigger and colder.

It has no curtains at present but I am being given some hardly used ones by a friend. At least that could be temporary as they won't go with the pale blue/grey. (they are a terracotta pattern browny/beige)
Carpets are large Indian rugs on a wooden floor.

It is costing a lot so it has to be a forever decision.
Sorry to butt in on your post Susiewakey and naturally I think your choice is perfect. You can add cushions and throws for brightness- and paintings

Photos of our north facing room. We redid it completely instead of having a big holiday last year which was our Golden Wedding anniversary year.

It is missing a piece of art on the wall where the Easter tree is but we can't get to the gallery yet but it does have Easter eggs and a fat black cat.

We are lucky that we have a south facing upstairs sitting room so mostly use this room in the evenings.

It is very smart kitty in fact it's gorgeous, and you have a white ceiling.

The back of our (newish) house is north facing and I’ve inherited a grey bedroom from the previous owners.

Grey walls, grey carpet, white mottled grey fitted wardrobes, grey blind. All newly decorated to sell so I’m not redecorating any time soon.

I’ve brightened it with orange and yellow batik prints that I got in Africa and bedding to match.

Not to everyone’s taste, but I like it.

However have you thought about adding some big bold coloured wallpaper on the North wall as a "Statement wall" then pick a suitable colour to match for the curtains pulling it all together? It would bring warmth to the room plus a highlighting your colour palette.
What ever you choose I am sure it will be lovely.
