Hello Theone, I was upset to move into my new bungalow and 'melt' the bottom of the kitchen cupboard with my toaster on my first night, I'd assumed they were wood.

I am also on Mumsnet and there was a discussion about doing up your kitchen, there is a fantastic new paint called French chic. I was directed to the 'French chic lovers' page on Facebook, and people have done wonders with vinyl wrapped kitchens.

They have sometimes torn the vinyl off, other recommend a hairdryer makes it easier. The MDF is primed first of all so it doesn't soak up the paint like a sponge, (no sanding as it's poisonous) then painted. French chic 'Alfresco' seems to be the one generally used for kitchen. I'm going to do mine, when I can, with 'Apple of My Eye'.

its easy to replace just the doors if you keep the same layout and cheaper
if not a carpenter will help reposition units
13 years sounds like time for a change maybe

I have the same problem with my vinyl wrap doors after about eight years. The wrap is peeling off at the edges, particularly on the doors next to the oven (which is under the counter)

I am thinking that the only solution is to replace the doors - but not with vinyl wrap again.

The only problem is if you chose a different colour door. Mine are cream and the wall cupboard carcasses and some side panels are also cream (to match).

I am fancying white doors, for a change but I will have to replace all of the wall cupboards where you can see the sides.

I think you could paint the side panels but it would probably look like a dogs dinner if I did them!!

Yes new doors will probably be cost effective compared to all the difficult work stripping the old ones.

Can’t help I’m afraid but you can get new doors!

Hello, I'm looking for a solution to my kitchen cupboard problem. The vinyl wrapping has started to balloon away from the surface on most of the doors. Any success stories or advice regarding removing the vinyl and painting the MDF that I presume is underneath? The kitchen is 13 years old and is obviously not a high end spec but I'd really rather not spend on a new one as I am pleased with the layout and quality despite the ballooning of the vinyl. Hope someone can help.
