New Years Eve

Every New Years Eve at midnight we usually have ice cream and waffles or homemade sundaes. Im trying to think of something different besides fondue. Not looking for anything too complicated, maybe even just a modification on the ice cream thing. Anyone have any suggestions?

Baked Alaska? Very retro

Do you need to change it. It sounds lovely. Can I come?

Grandmabatty Thu 26-Aug-21 14:08:00

You're welcome. You could add sparklers to it when it comes out of the oven. ☺️ An ice cream bombe is good too but quite complicated to put together.

Am I in a time warp here, or is this a bit early to be thinking about - 4 months hence? Gives you plenty of time to practice I guess!

We don’t allow the “C” word in our family ( Christmas) before October - but New Years Eve?
Why plan this far ahead- who knows what will be in the shops if anything, by then!

Some people like to plan in advance. What harm does it do? If you don’t want to join in, fine.

Obviously there will need to be several taste tests to ensure the delicious creamy treats are up to snuff. I’m available as a product tester grin

I'll join you but not while you're wearing those C*******s hats!

Not until after 5th November!

What’s wrong with a glass of bubbly? There will probably be a champagne shortage so I’d buy some now .

Grandmabatty Thu 26-Aug-21 16:33:48

I was a single mum and worked full time so Christmas/ New Year preparations started as soon as I could afford to. I would buy presents during the summer and put them away. I see nothing wrong in planning ahead, particularly if you're catering. If it's not your thing then that's fine too.

Please don’t misunderstand my post - I wasn’t intending anything by it. I was genuinely surprised - I’m someone who’ll be thinking about what to provide on NY Eve about 2 days before!!

Blossoming Thu 26-Aug-21 16:42:28

Blimey! I’m not joining in yet another GN slanging match, Soz if I hurt your feels yet again MawBe. Marry Christmas and a Happy New Year. ???? Have a random pink flamingo ?

What about a frozen ice cream cake, hold on, just looked one up www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/meringue_gelato_cake_38183
Here’s one I made earlier! ????

Ice cream sounds a bit chilly for NYE. How about something warm for a change.

It might depend where the OP is?! Might be somewhere hot?!

Grandmabatty Thu 26-Aug-21 18:02:30

I thought the OP maybe lived in Australia or NZ, hence the ice cream.

AGAA4 Thu 26-Aug-21 18:38:20

Just thinking how cold it is here but if she is in Australia ice cream dish just right.

Redhead56 Thu 26-Aug-21 20:47:47

I would have devilled eggs and sparkling rose wine.

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 26-Aug-21 20:50:37

We always have icecream for one of the Christmas Day puddings. Elder son won’t eat anything with dried fruit in it so he won’t eat Christmas pudding. His favourite is my homemade toffee icecream.

Maw keep,a space for me behind the grinchy sofa…..it is August is it ?

grandtanteJE65 Sat 11-Sept-21 17:10:40

Trifle?

If you are worried by the rumours of shortages, pop the fruit in the freezer now, buy macaroons now and a tin of custard powder.

I prefer to make an egg custard myself, but a tin of custard powder never comes amiss, does it?
