Goodbye, G-Tech - so what next?

Our G-Tech is running out of steam, and we want to buy a new upright, chargeable hoover which will deal with carpets and hard surfaces, plus attachments for the stairs. Do you have any recommendations, please? Gransnet always gives me so much help!
Has anyone used a Halo sweeper? or is Dyson the preferred brand.
Thanking you in advance.

I got the accessory kit thrown in as part of the deal. I didn't use it because we keep a great big Vax in the garage for hoovering out the cars.

And, as I said, our handheld got broken so I can't use it anyway.

If you were to PM me with your address I could send you my unusable accessory kit for the cost of the postage grin If you like.

Thanks for taking the time to give me for information on the G Tech doodledog sounds promising!

I bought a halo and I'm not particularly impressed. Certainly wouldn't recommend it.

That's very kind, Maisie, but I ordered it before seeing your post ?.

Thanks, though, it was a generous offer (put it on eBay?)

I made the mistake of ditching my Gtech when the battery died, a new battery was £64. I bought a Shark, and hated it, all the gubbins were at the top, made it far too heavy for me. I`ve sold it and now have a new Gtech and Multi, so much better.

I'm watching this topic with interest.

I have a 2 year old Dyson V7 cordless which I love. It's one of their older models but I think it has the strongest suction of any of them. It copes superbly with the never-ending dust and dog hair in our home. The only downside is the short run time, about 20 minutes on a full charge. Recharging takes about 3 hours. I'm now thinking of getting a corded Dyson (or similar) to be able to do all the bedrooms and stairs in one go. I'll keep the cordless one downstairs for a quick run round if visitors are expected!

I also have a 15 year old Miele cleaner which is still good but the suction isn't as powerful as the Dyson, but it's fine on our hard floors.

We have a Dyson rechargeable. I think it is a V10. It is the best hoover we have ever bought. We had a GTech before (and still use it occasionally). My gripe with the GTech is how messy it is to empty although I think that may have been upgraded since our model.

Whatdayisit Wed 01-Sept-21 23:05:17

^^ I agree about the messy emptying of the GTech.

Happysexagenarian cant you just do them on different days?

We need a new cordless vac. Thinking I'll try the G tech, as the Bosch Athlete is great at cleaning and lightweight but the handle broke easily and it starts and stops.
The thing is there are different models. I don't know which one to get. Is there much of a difference between models?

I'd have another G-Tec.

Gtech AirRam Mk2 K9 Cordless Vacuum
This one seems very light. Think I'll go with it. Unless someone tells me not to. I hope emptying is not too messy (although that's my OH's department.)
I hate buying new things, my head is spinning looking at Which and store reviews. Too much choice nowadays!

We bought a Dyson V10 this year - DH’s choice?. I find it heavy, I’m not terribly impressed with its up to the edge cleaning, and when we used it on a new wool carpet it got so clogged up it was unbelievable so until the carpet stops shedding fibres we are back to using the old Dyson upright on it. DD has a shark - very pleased with it.

Emptying the G-Tec is so easy really, don't see the problem. Just tap it inside the bin, and hey presto. From time to time, I take the container outside and clean it with a bottle brush and tap it against a tree to make sure no dust clogs it up. So simple- and so light. Can carry it up and down the stairs with one hand.

You do need to unclog the filter from time to time, though as it loses a bit of suction. I tap mine out on a handy wall. I keep meaning to buy a spare so that I can wash it properly. grin

Thanks everyone. Thanks Kali. It sounds ok.

Love my GTec Air Ram - upright and hand held. I did not read through the instruction book properly when I first had it, so after two years use, (when for the first time it started not working properly), I discovered an easy to get to filter which I should have cleared and washed on a regular basis.
Before getting rid of your current machine dahlia check to see if this is the reason yours is not working - or, as has been said - it could mean you need a replacement battery.
I would never purchase anything made by Dyson - to me just highly over-expensive -just about 'okay' machines made by a company whose boss gives does not give a toss about UK.

nadateturbe Tue 12-Oct-21 10:19:56

Thanks Franbern. have just ordered one, great discount offer too!

Franbern Tue 12-Oct-21 14:49:06

nadateurb Do let us all know how you get on with your new machine. Mine was bought for me by my children for Christmas 2018. So easy and light to use. Lots of features like the upright handle going smaller for storage in something like under-stairs cupboards. Hand held one is excellent for car and also for sucking out air on those vacuum storage containers.

nadateturbe Wed 13-Oct-21 01:50:45

Will do Franbern.

I have one an original Mk1 Air ram K9. It is rubbish on hard floors, but I believe the later models have solved that problem. I would therefore buy another when I feel ready.

Franbern Thu 14-Oct-21 08:51:09

I have hard floor throughout my hallway and living/dining room. Rug in Living room. Bedrooms are carpeted. Find my upright GTec is absolutely fine on both, without me even having ti alter any setting as I go from carpet to hard floor. Use it is in my kitchen also.

nadateturbe Thu 14-Oct-21 09:20:27

Same floors here Franbern. Just waiting on delivery. Supposed to be yesterday but I'm in NI, so expectsd delay.
My Bosch Athlet works well- when it works- keeps cutting out. Have had enough.

nadateturbe Thu 14-Oct-21 17:07:01

Well, I don't like it. I took it for granted it would have variable settings. The model I bought doesn't and its hard to push on our living room rug. It lifts dirt very well but I couldn't use it, my muscles would ache. (Maybe that's a plus. My husband would have to do the vacuuming!)
I don't like the broad base either. I much prefer the one we are replacing.
i'll give it a week and if I still feel the same I'll order another. It's a lot of money to waste but needs must...

nadateturbe Thu 14-Oct-21 17:16:16

I might feel better about it tomorrow when i'm not tired.

Umm, just moved my Mum down south and she has a G-Tech which I have never used before. I wasn't really picking up so I unblocked everything etc and asked her if she had done the filter, and she says she doesn't think it had one, so 'no'! Have to say I can't find one on it either, is there one hiding from me somewhere? It's a cordless one, very lightweight, and has a bag?
