It's a horrible stage you're at Granny23. I really hope you get the flat. Once the upheaval of it all settles down I bet you'll feel a lot better. The family will be glad you're in a better place too and with far fewer worries about upkeep.
On the brighter side, your cottage will be available to another family to love and look after. You will be giving them the opportunity to make it a family home going into the future.

Although your heart will be sore to leave your family home Granny23, you know in your head, moving into a flat is the sensible thing to do, financially and maintenance free of the upkeep required for a larger property and large garden.

You'll never look back. We moved from a big house and huge garden - both of which I loved. Paid off the mortgage. Life became so much easier.

You are doing a wise thing Granny23, I wish I had done it after my H died.
We have been in our house 44 years and it is far too big but my GD came to live with me 6 months after he died and my dysfunctional S has a room here for when his life goes pear shaped, long and personal story.
I also feel too old for the disruption, I had decorators in 3 weeks ago and I am not totally over the stress of that.

Yes, good luck. A big wrench but it would make life so much easier and less worrying. Worrying about how to maintain an old property and big garden and how to pay the bills takes so much of the joy out of life. Will you let us know how you get on?

I hope you get your flat Granny23. I moved from my big cash guzzling old house to a flat and it was a big relief to be somewhere I could manage.

Good News! My offer was accepted. Not so good News - there is a condition attached that my current house has to be put on the market immediately, with a view to be able to complete the sale within 3 weeks. So Agent coming tomorrow to take photographs and I'll be up all night cleaning and tidying [shame]

Great news indeed. That's a lot of pressure to sell though. Mind you properties are being snapped up right now. I'm sure your family will help with the cleaning and tidying.

Hate to put a dampner on this - but THREE WEEKS for Completion is virtually impossible. Even if you managed to find a real cash buyer for your cottage (so, no mortgage needed), solicitors will hardly have started to get together all the searches, etc required in three weeks - three months would be more realistic (with a good Solicitor and a lot of Good Luck).

She's in Scotland. Formal notes of interest might be enough to demonstrate that the sale is highly likely.
