What do you wash up dishes with? J Cloth, brush or sponge?

What is it with all this bleaching ???????

That's a good question. I bleach my dishcloth every couple of days - a tablespoon or so of bleach on top of the cloth which is then covered with water and left overnight. This kills germs in the sink too, and then the drain when I pull the plug in the morning.

I am never sure whether this is better or worse for the environment than using disposable 'cloths' like J cloths or those rectangular sponges that need to be replaced all the time. One dishcloth lasts me weeks.

A greens scour lad, a wire scour pad, a dishcloth and a brush.

All go into the sink soaked in bleach overnight, now and again.

They all do the job perfectly ok.

The scourer is very good for scrubbing the wooden chopping boards (and I've never poisoned anyone yet...)

Apparently wood and bamboo have anti-bacterial properties.
I scrub my wooden and bamboo chopping boards with hot soapy water.

Now I'll have to think again.

I love a knitted dish cloth, and my mum always included them in my christmas presents.
I miss her, and my cloths.
I could probably knit one myself (cloth, not mum, sadly)

I use my dishwasher a lot so only rinse out the odd mug and I use a brush usually.

My SiL sent me tea towels as a Christmas present last year- they will be going to a charity shop soon. I hate receiving anything for the house as a personal gift. I do not need anything.

I never cease to be amazed at the huge quantities of bleach being discharged daily into the waste water system...

Another dishwasher owner here, we do very little washing up. When we do it's cotton dishcloth and old fashioned metal scourer. The scourer is very good for scrubbing the wooden chopping boards (and I've never poisoned anyone yet...)

Brush.

My husband insists on washing crockery before he puts them in the dishwasher, which really begs the question why he bothers with the dishwasher at all after he's thoroughly cleaned them, I just give them a cursory rinse beforehand. I use the brush for pans.

Don't wash anything by hand, everything goes in the dishwasher.

Dishcloths disposable ones but mainly use the dishwasher. I wash them every day by soaking in cheap biological liquid and disinfectant.

Cotton dish cloths, and a sponge/scrubbie for tougher items. The cloths are washed daily, but the sponge only gets a bleach once in a while I admit.

No dishwasher here. The dog does lick the yogurt containers prior to washing and recycling.

Do Brillo Pads still exist?
Yes they do, just bought some, Marmadoit.

Now I'll have to check to see if they're bad for the environment but sometimes they're the only thing that works.
