Duvet Covers, which do you prefer buttons or poppers?

Although I love clean fresh bedding, I just hate changing the duvet and as I was doing the buttons up I was thinking it must be hard for those that have problems with doing up buttons, so poppers must be much easier,

I prefer buttons because after a few washes there always seem to be one or two poppers that won’t press together.

Zips are even easier - has anyone had these and do they stand up well to the washing.

Hello TrendyNannie6 your post ran bells with me as My DH had a stroke three and a half years ago. I always let him deal with the duvet cover coming off for a wash and ours have buttons, he finds them incredibly hard to deal with. It is a long time since I have seen duvet covers for sale with poppers. Perhaps I should start looking a bit harder. The bedding change is one of only a few jobs that I leave him to cope with.

Poppers all day long.
I don`t put the duvet in the tumble dryer for more than 20 minutes so no problem with them going out of shape.

Buttons. Good exercise for stiff fingers!
Nice to sit on the bed, and take time doing them.

Poppers, buttons are tedious, I just want to get it done and we don’t have a tumble drier, so no problems there.

DH has a button phobia, so buttons are left to me to do them all. Poppers he helps with, but they damage easily, no matte how carefully you iron.

I have a couple of duvets covers (very old) with zips, but the zips seem to be in the side rather than the bottom of the duvet - but I would go with zips any day.

I've got one with a zip, love it and intend to replace the others when necessary with zipped ones.

I have both but honestly my king size duvet hangs so low at the end of the bed now I don’t bother doing them up anymore there’s only me that knows and I could care less ?

aggie Sat 04-Sept-21 19:35:08

I only fasten every third button ?

mokryna Sat 04-Sept-21 19:54:40

So do I aggie.
Many years ago I used to have some covers that had a sort of funnel at the base which you had to push the duvet through. It tucked in under the mattress and there were no buttons or poppers.

Nonogran Sat 04-Sept-21 20:01:07

Poppers please!
Only the other day I was complaining about the tedium of buttons on a duvet cover. I don’t tumble dry my covers to spoil the poppers so for me, it’s poppers every time.

BlueBelle Sat 04-Sept-21 20:04:33

Is this even a Question ???

Jaylou Sat 04-Sept-21 20:24:26

Curve ball here. Some of my covers have a 4" hole at the two corners at the top end. This helps pulling the actual duvet back into the corners if it decides to dance inside the covers.

GrandmaKT Sat 04-Sept-21 20:25:57

Poppers! But I find fewer and fewer brands have them....

Jaxjacky Sat 04-Sept-21 20:45:05

MOnica iron? Do not compute….

TillyTrotter Sat 04-Sept-21 20:52:50

Ours have button closures and I do up every other one as they are tricky. The duvet stays in and it makes changing the beds easier.

I have noticed that in hotels in Germany duvet covers have a tuck arrangement rather like pillowcases. It seemed very sensible compared with buttons or poppers.

LauraNorder Sat 04-Sept-21 21:20:27

I like the sound of that Grumpa

Blossom14 sorry to hear your husband had a stroke, I must admit, most of our duvet covers have buttons, but the ones with poppers are easier I think, and zip ones even better,

TrendyNannie6 Sat 04-Sept-21 21:31:32

Bluebelle, yes it’s a question! Why do you find it so amusing!

halfpint1 Sat 04-Sept-21 21:37:27

No

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 04-Sept-21 21:38:27

I remember the funnel duvet covers. I think the one I had was French.

halfpint1 Sat 04-Sept-21 21:39:48

Oops,no buttons or poppers on mine in France, just a nice big middle part to tuck in, hate the other type now, they take so long to do up
