I like to feel cosy in our house and we mostly have a temp around 21 degrees, we aren’t fans of throws, so probably quite unusual as most people love to be wrapped up in one in the autumn and winter, obv if the weather drops and gets colder then we up the thermo to 22, don’t like the heat too warm in the bedroom though

7:30am to 6pm 19 degrees, then 20 until 9:30pm. 14 degrees overnight just in case it gets really cold.
But I must admit that if I get chilly at all I bump it up!!
Ive just invested in some lovely thick tights to keep my legs warm!!!

16 degrees day and night

Mine is on from 6am to 10 pm set at 18 degrees all year round but obviously does not click on in the summer. It’s then 10 degrees overnight but I don’t think it has ever gone that low. I leave the hearing on when I go out as I like it warm when I get back. If I go away for the night or longer, I might turn it down to 15 during the day but depends on the weather forecast.

If I am in the house and sat down, I will turn it up to 20 degrees if my nose gets cold. I don’t like using a throw but do wear two layers in the winter.

When I first moved in this bungalow, I was out working full time and did not have the heating on for much of the day but I began to get black mould on some walls as the estate was built on old marshy land. The water table is high and the garden is boggy and often under water - as there is five feet of space under my house I am in no danger of flooding but the soil surface in the void does lead to damp. Since increasing the heat through the day, the damp has disappeared and it’s a more even temperature.

I have no idea what my heating bills are as I use my oven a lot for baking but I don’t think they are too expensive, quite modest compared to my old family house. But my comfort is my priority as I have arthritis and it’s much more painful in the cold.

16 degrees day and night

Mine would never be on if set that low! I have it on 19 daytime and 19.5 evenings which keeps it from feeling cold. It's on 16 at night so it never comes on except in freezing weather.

Have not needed heating on in mornings yet this Autumn. Heating is on timer, but I keep the thermostat turned right down during summer and just turn it up during those timed hours if I need it. During this last week have actually had it on for two or three hours in the evenings, usually from about 5 pm to 8 ish. Then I have it on for about 21 degrees. However, radiators are turned off in both bedrooms, cannot stand trying to sleep in a warmed room and still had bedroom window open 24/7 up until earlier this week.

My flat is obviously quite warm and comfortable. Once I have settled down in the evening, in my nightie (still short sleeved cotton summer one) and fleece dressing gown. Have a small throw (knitted to match colour system of my Living room) over my knees, I really do not feel any cold. However, my daughter has a habit of just dropping over some evenings to visit me, and if she does not see the heating on she gives me the oft-repeated lecture as on the dangers of breathing in cold air, etc. etc at my age!!!

Used to be 21 in the day, but we recently turned it down to 20. It goes off at night.

I believe the planet saving recommendation is 16 degrees maximum. Can anyone confirm that for me, please, or have I got it wrong?

Ours is set for 16 during the day, 18 in the evening, 12 overnight, and is off if we’re out for the day.

I have storage heaters so the tempature isnt stable. The electric input switch has been going up and down like a yoyo the past few weeks. Its so hot in my flat this morning I have had to open the windows!!! I cant change the storage heating as Im in council property! Ive looked at other electric portable heating but they are all too expesive to run. ?

I don’t have central heating so I just heat one room with a gas fire when I m sitting about, I find that adequate others wouldn’t
When it’s freezing freezing and I m going to be in another room for any length of time then I use a small electric heater
(one that looks like a radiator )
My daughter has central heating but can’t afford to use it on more than 16*
I think the more heat you have the more you need and the higher it has to go and I honestly don’t think going from 23* to outside cold is good for your body
When I used to visit people in their homes I couldn’t believe the stifling heat they some were sitting in and I m not a hot blooded person at all

I had a new gas boiler installed a couple of days ago so this is of interest to me. I didn't have a thermostat with the old boiler so am currently playing around with the new-fangled, remote-controlled, Google Nest thermostat!

I've set it at 20 for two hours in the morning, and the same for two hours in the evening - but that seems a bit warm for now so will just reduce, as and when I need to. I've never had heating on overnight, unless exceptionally freezing weather.

I have mine set to one log burning stove but if it gets much colder I will have to raise it up to two log burning stoves.

I have storage heating so no control over it at all. I have to check the weather to see whether I need to switch on my heating, otherwise the house gets far too hot and I end up opening doors to cool down.
I hate storage heaters, very old and expensive, but can't change them as I am in rented accommodation.

Mine is set to OFF it very rarely gets put on at all. Maybe for an hour or so if it's snowing or really really cold outside. The house is very well insulated and the heating is rarely needed. It's very comfortable inside, I still have my bedroom and bathroom windows open and sleep under a 4 tog quilt. I do however have underfloor heating in the bathroom.

I haven't had the heating on yet, nor lit the fire, but when I do it will be at 16C, for an hour in the morning and again in the evening. I don't usually use it until it's below freezing outside, but there's only me and the pets here. If my little grandsons are coming they're used to warm houses so I'd put it on then.

Set for 18 - two hours in the morning (7-9) and 3 hours at night (6-9). Rarely on during the day, as we’re often out, and the house is well insulated anyway. Our AC find our hold cold, but we’re used to it!

TillyTrotter Mon 08-Nov-21 07:19:38

20 degrees is comfortable for me.
I worked in offices all my life and the recommended temp. is 20 degrees, and I must have got used to that.

I presume you're not in UK.

18 is the recommended night time temperature and 19 to 21 in occupied rooms or if you are elderly you run the risk of hypothermia. I think posters who have their thermostats turned down to 16 should be aware of the dangers.

You presume wrong, I live in London.
