Moving to Wales

We live west of Swansea, south of Carmarthen. Easy access to transport. M4, trains and buses. Lovely quiet area, and we can walk to the sea, the shops, doctor , dentist etc. An area we didn’t know before but we are so very glad we found it. Mid Wales is beautiful, no sea but mountains and lakes

I would just say to look ahead and how you might manage without a car. Preferably within a short walk to food shops, chemist and doctor, and a good reliable bus service for dentist, hospital and railway station. So many residential areas are not within easy reach of these things, which is only fine as long as you have a car.

My partner lives in Fishguard and I did too for a while after moving from Berkshire. We decided this because loved the area, walking distance to gp, shops, parks, bus routes. Difficulties we found were, with covid the NHS Wales sites are different and a bit behind the England one. It is very far from things like family. So if you want to use the train it’s erratic at times, the reason I moved back to England. Positives include no prescription fees and I got to see the sea every day and property prices are lower. Things are very chilled too and if you need tradesmen expect to wait and they won’t turn up on time generally. Good luck with the move.

It’s looking unlikely now that it will be Wales. DH has just opened a hospital letter that says he has a benign brain tumour so moving any distance from here would be stupid. We will still sell up but look for somewhere more convenient to live and within the hospital catchment. It’s come out of the blue.

Some areas of mid-Wales do not have easy access to a main hospital so that is probably a wise decision.
