Commiserations, BlueBalou, life does things this this. I hope your DH can recover from it.

Thank you everyone.
After a horrible year it seems that we have a few more buggerations to overcome ??

BlueBalou

It’s looking unlikely now that it will be Wales. DH has just opened a hospital letter that says he has a benign brain tumour so moving any distance from here would be stupid. We will still sell up but look for somewhere more convenient to live and within the hospital catchment. It’s come out of the blue.

Thank you everyone, it’s much appreciated xx

I'm sorry to hear your news, BlueBalou

Some areas of mid-Wales do not have easy access to a main hospital so that is probably a wise decision.

So sorry to hear this, take care and stay safe xx

My partner lives in Fishguard and I did too for a while after moving from Berkshire. We decided this because loved the area, walking distance to gp, shops, parks, bus routes. Difficulties we found were, with covid the NHS Wales sites are different and a bit behind the England one. It is very far from things like family. So if you want to use the train it’s erratic at times, the reason I moved back to England. Positives include no prescription fees and I got to see the sea every day and property prices are lower. Things are very chilled too and if you need tradesmen expect to wait and they won’t turn up on time generally. Good luck with the move.

I would just say to look ahead and how you might manage without a car. Preferably within a short walk to food shops, chemist and doctor, and a good reliable bus service for dentist, hospital and railway station. So many residential areas are not within easy reach of these things, which is only fine as long as you have a car.

If you have given thought to Mid Wales, Hay On Wye 20 miles from Hereford. Abergavenny. Monmouth.

Welshpool 20 miles from Shrewsbury

Mid Wales is beautiful, no sea but mountains and lakes

BBbevan thank you! I will be in touch ?

We live west of Swansea, south of Carmarthen. Easy access to transport. M4, trains and buses. Lovely quiet area, and we can walk to the sea, the shops, doctor , dentist etc. An area we didn’t know before but we are so very glad we found it. If you would like to know exactly where please feel free to pm me. ?

At long last we can start realising our plans to move to Wales, our house is on the market.
We’re looking at mid Wales, perhaps Llandrindod Wells or Aberdovey. We will be spending time having a good look around.
Are there any GNs who can help us decide? Ideally we want a bungalow or 3 bed house, reasonable sized garden, off road parking (what bliss that would be!) and walking distance from a town. Lovely views would be lovely too! I am probably asking a lot. We do have (well controlled) health conditions so I guess that needs to be a consideration too.
We have been planning this for several years, and now we can actually begin living the life we want rather than have I hope.
Any help is really appreciated, thank you.
We do not want to live in Cardiff or Swansea, the Valleys or in north Wales and have already looked at Brecon (unfortunately personal reasons preclude here), Aberystwyth and the west coast (absolutely beautiful but too far from family)
Fingers crossed that you can help, thank you.
