There have been many threads on GN about energy prices, but what do you pay per KWh . I recently went onto a fixed rate and pay 32.85 Kwh for electricity with a 24.86 daily standing charge and 8.94KWh for Gas with 26.10 daily standing charge. I know it can vary all depending on where you live in the UK we are in S.Wales. I thought it better to fix my rate so at least I know what I am paying for the next 12 months.

We’ve been moved to OVO - just noticed that prices exclude VAT

Electricity
Plan name: Simpler Energy
Unit rate: 27.10p per Kilowatt hourkWh
Standing charge: 41.32p a day

Gas
Plan name: Simpler Energy

Standing charge: 25.92p a day

1Summer. That’s what we have decided to do. Martin Lewis has said that there aren’t many deals cheaper than the price cap.

Our fixed tariff with Scottish Power is due to end this month.
They offered us a further fixed tariff of

Electric 44.76kWH standing charge 44.84p
Gas. 13.56 kWH standing charge 27.22p

I also think the standard capped tariff will be our better option other companies are offering much better fixed deals but almost impossible to swap to now.

That’s what I’ve been offered by Scottish Power. Did you notice that there is an additional variable amount every three months, could possibly be a refund but that’s not likely is it? That and the exit charge of £150 per fuel has put me offthese fixed deals.

No Jane43 didn’t notice that but agree a refund is unlikely. The £150 per fuel exit charge is exorbitant though. We will go with variable rate in the hope we can get a fixed deal with another company within the next year.

I’m with Shell, when I last checked in the last day or so, they were not offering any fixed tariffs.

I don’t know price per kw but our SO was £199 pm to bulb, it’s increased to £306 per month for a 3 bed (admittedly cold) house in the SE. With another increase in October it will take my entire state pension.

PamelaJ1 Thu 23-Jun-22 10:43:34

Just fixed with EDF . I’ve been dithering but am taking Martin’s advice.

We have oil for heating and bottled gas for cooking , so not a great electricity consumption. Our supplier has just reduced our standing order from £86 to £60 per month

Jane43 Thu 23-Jun-22 10:15:08

I’ve just done some calculations to help me decide what to do when my fixed rate with Scottish Power comes to an end. I have concluded that it will be cheaper to go on to the standard rate tariff because even allowing for a 50% increase it will be less expensive than going on to the one year or two year fix they are offering. The price cap is predicted to rise by 42% in October and 1% in January 2023 then to fall by 8% in April 2023.

Just coming up to date.
We decided to go on the variable rate with EDF and not fix until we had a better idea of what to do. Now if we want to fix it will cost us more than it would have. Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn’t it?
Now we are still wondering the same thing and think we will fix at 37.92/day. 42.95/unit. £273/month. Agggh.
It’s less stressful to think of it as £9/day. Only 3 cups of coffee at one of the well known coffee shops.
If only we had 3cups/day we’d have something to give up then?
Have you all decided what to do yet. Martin is saying fix if you can get a deal that is a certain % over your tariff at the moment and ours is…. Just.

I’m with Octopus

Electricity 22.9. kWh
St charge 22.96 per day

Gas 5.47 kWh
St charge 24.86

Fixed till Nov 23

I was paying £57 but fixed at £90 last year. I seem to be less than some of you.

People shouldn't be in credit for such large amounts - just reduce your DD online and ask for a refund!

I'm with Octopus:

Electricity 23.76 Kwh
S/charge 23.30/day

Gas 5.85 Kwh
S/charge 26.10/day

Fixed from last October for two years.

To be fair I didn't know I was in credit until I sent in my last metre reading. All recent bills have been estimated and I fully expected them to have underestimated me rather than over. I've recently got the Octopus app and finding it great for the most up to date info

I'm with Octopus.
My charges are

Electric 27.63 kWh
standing charge 44.48 a day

Gas 7.28 kWh
standing charge 27.22 a day

I haven't seen anyone elses electricity standing charge as high as mine, is anyones? Slightly concerned that I'm being ripped off.

Also I'm £500 in credit and so far my direct debit remains at £130 a month, not sure when it will change but I've been paying that for a few months now and not had notification that it's going up.

Grayling Thu 07-Apr-22 23:03:46

I'm with Ovo: Electricity Standing Charge is 47.67, Gas 25.92. My direct debit was £88 pm and I was asked to increase it to £104 in February which I did. I am now £71.08 in credit!!

2507C0 Thu 07-Apr-22 21:51:30

Why are we all paying different prices for the same product? It’s crazy! If this is what privatisation does to necessary services then I think Thatcher made a huge error.

growstuff Thu 07-Apr-22 17:20:41

I pay 27.8p per KWh for electricity and 6.99p per KWh for gas.

I'm officially in fuel poverty, but can't start to apply for any discount until October, according to Ovo's website.

growstuff Thu 07-Apr-22 17:07:07

Ovo Energy has just increased my monthly direct debit from £140 to £207!! I have a balance of £799.13 on my account.

I'm in Essex and am on the (alleged) cheapest rate too.

Was SSE now taken over by OVO. DD upped to £170 per month, was £50, We are in credit by £86.
Only have electricity, oil heating.
According to my smart meter, the most we used in a month was 282kWh in December.
Tariff is 27.89p kWh, standing charge is 50.02p per day.
This would amount to £94.17 at todays rates.
There is an option to change the DD on their site but you can only increase the amount.

Looking at other's daily standing charge, ours looks excessive.
What is your daily standing charge if you are also an OVO customer?

We are with Ovo and on the standard variable rate. We are in Essex and pay Electricity standing charge 36.11p and 27.84 per kwh

I find Ovo customer service to be very good Pearl

Shandy57 Thu 07-Apr-22 12:11:35

It might be your region pce612, there is a link to the regional costs on another page.

I'm in the rural NE and our electricity power lines were blown down in Storm Arwen, and again in Storm Barra. Some people were off for six weeks whilst the repair people worked in dreadful conditions. Our electricity standing charge is noticeably higher than other areas.

The price paid for gas and electric is irrelevant its the standing charge I do not agree with especially when you have a dual fuel bill. I also loathe paying road tax include it in the price of fuel therefore if you use the road you pay for it.

There’s actually no such thing as road tax. It’s vehicle excise duty - the amount you pay is based on the car you drive and the impact the emissions have on the environment. Hard to see how you could fairly include it in the price of fuel because it would have to be at a flat rate. This would take away the incentive to reduce emissions and those driving modest cars would be subsidising the gas guzzlers. I agree with what you’re basically saying though - everywhere you look we’re being gouged for taxes and duties, and it can only get worse.
