Sorry, MadeInYorkshire, nothing to do with you that I withdrew my post, but I wasn't comfortable with the amount of detail I'd put on it. That's the only reason your post was withdrawn too. smile

No worries, although couldn't remember what I had written anyway! x

My 85 year old aunt was very upset recently to get a £600 water bill. Her neighbour upstairs has recently had his new bathroom installed, and initially she wondered if she was paying his bill too.

After many phone calls, the water board agreed to come out to check the work they'd done in the road outside her flat, and unfortunately the pipe was leaking. She has now had three bills, and the customer service agent said she hadn't paid them for two years - she'd never received the bills. When her water bill comes in she goes to the bank to pay it, and got confused about her cheque book stubs when I was speaking to her. What a mess, she's now written to complain, I hope someone takes her complaint up.

No you are not being unreasonable Fernhillnana it's an absolute disgrace.

We received notification in the post yesterday of court proceedings and a court summons due to unpaid rates. This is with a flat we are in the process of renovating. No one's living there and the local council know that this is the case, and will be reassessing the rate value when all work is completed.

When Mr. S. telephoned yesterday, they apologised saying both letters had been computer generated in error and no action was being taken.

Fortunately we are not easily 'spooked' but many are. I hope this error is rectified asap and your D's OK.

We are with Ovo and find them very good. Easy to speak to an English speaking person if necessary.

My 86 year old Mum moved down south to live near me in November last year. She moved from a large house with GCH to a much smaller flat with those yukky storage heaters. But she has managed with them over the winter okay. I sent off the opening meter reading to OVO who she 'moved with', and although I tried was unable to set up a direct debit for her at the time, and then I moved house, which was HORRIFIC and so that fell by the board. However in February she was sent a bill for £30.42 which she paid, thinking that was very reasonable ..... Roll on May and I was sent a text from SSE asking for a meter reading, so went to the meter and took a picture and came home to send it in (she has no online presence at all so have set it all up via my email and phone number.) So unsure as to why we were being asked for a reading from SSE anyway, it said online SSE part of the OVO family, fair enough ..... BUT it then asked me for 2 other meter numbers, which I had no idea we actually had, so went back to scroll through the meter and added those too. 24 hours later she had a bill for £2166.62 and they wanted £349 a month just to pay the debt off never mind pay for the heating she was using!! I tried to deal with it but they wouldn't let me as I wasn't the account holder or named as a contact (despite it being set up with my email and phone number) so had to go back to speak to them when I was with her. She had already said she wasn't paying it and would go to prison instead!

After holding for around 45 minutes trying to get through, I eventually got hold of someone, told our tale but was through to the wrong dept, as you always are, so went round in circles for another 30 minutes and eventually found someone who added me to the account. I was just explaining - again - the issue and the call bloody dropped!! I was so surprised though when the phone rang and bless her she had called me back! By the end of the call the DD had been set up for £78 a month and the bill reduced to £217 .... not sure how, but she worked a miracle, so in the end it was definitely worth the hassle ..... I hope she gets on okay sorting it out.

They have so many customers, it would be impossible for bills to be other than computer generated and the posting process automated. If your daughter can read her meter she can easily get this rectified.

A few years ago after I had recently divorced and moved house
I had an enormous Gas bill which was debited from my account regardless of all my efforts to stop it. I had only lived
in the house for 7 months and it was a mistaken estimate.
It took many many months , not weeks to get the money back.
It caused me endless problems to stay out of the red with the
bank and much stress.
My sympathies for your daughter and I hope she is more
successfull than I was

I should imagine that the bills are all computer generated and that no human eye has seen them till they are opened at the other end.

My daughter who is 6 months pregnant lives with her husband in a one bedroom flat in York. They have no TV and few devises of any kind and haven’t had the heat on for 3 months. They’ve received a bill for £2300. Obviously it is a mistake but she is really upset and stressed. AIBU to think that providers are being incredibly thoughtless about how these things can affect sensitive people?
