I don’t know about anyone else but I loathe toilet brushes, I don’t care how modern they are Joseph joseph etc, ? what is wrong with wearing disposable gloves & cloth and just clean it!

Nannagarra Tue 12-Jul-22 22:40:51

Completely agree with you.

Sago Tue 12-Jul-22 22:42:22

I hate them too ?

Whiff Tue 12-Jul-22 22:47:16

Hate them never used one. Just squirt bleach all round and let it do it's job.

tanith Tue 12-Jul-22 22:49:23

Disgusting things I’ve not had one for many years rubber gloves and bleach does it.

DillytheGardener Tue 12-Jul-22 22:53:12

I’ve never thought to clean my toilet that way. Though they disgust me, if a guest (ahem blush made a smear, how would they clean it up?

Farmor15 Tue 12-Jul-22 23:10:09

I always thought toilet brushes were to deal with the s**t that sometimes gets stuck to the side of the bowl when using the loo - not for a proper cleaning. Especially if a guest in someone's house, one wants to leave it clean and would not have access to rubber gloves and a cloth!

crazyH Tue 12-Jul-22 23:19:33

I couldn’t do without a toilet brush. And there’s always bleach in the holder. I also change it regularly

Shelflife Tue 12-Jul-22 23:32:29

Disgusting things!!!!! Bleach , rubber gloves is the answer. Toilet brushes are unhygienic even if sitting in bleach! Can't even bear to think about it - hate the things , just not necessary!!!

Baggytrazzas Tue 12-Jul-22 23:37:39

CrazyH. I agree. I use mine daily to clean the bowl along with bleach or toilet cleaner, rinse the brush in the toilet by flushing it in clean water and like you I have bleach in the toilet brush holder so that the bristles are stored in the bleach. I'm not actually touching anything that comes into direct contact with the toilet bowl. I hate the idea of putting my hand down with a cloth, rubber gloves or not ! What happens to the cloth, does it get binned after each use?

mokryna Tue 12-Jul-22 23:40:11

A clean bleached one is in the cupboard and comes out when I have guests. One male guest didn’t use it and had left before I realized, mind you I don’t think I could have asked him to clean after himself, would you have?

muse Tue 12-Jul-22 23:46:22

We have one but it’s more for visitors to use as mentioned before. I get the rubber gloves out.

We have a treatment plant and no beach allowed down sinks, basins or toilet.

Baggytrazzas Tue 12-Jul-22 23:48:17

When we have guests they use the downstairs toilet. I def don't want a guest using a cloth down the toilet so make sure I've removed all cleaning cloths but I do make sure there is toilet duck or similar plus a toilet brush in case they need to use it. After they have left I usually go in with bleach, cloths, and floor mop. Tbh I've never had any mess to clean up but I like it to be cleaned straight away. I've also found that putting a toilet block containing bleach in the cistern before guests arrive helps to keep things cleaner and although these aren't very environmentally friendly, neither is the bleach or toilet cleaner.

Baggytrazzas Tue 12-Jul-22 23:53:31

Mokryna - I definitely would not have asked my guest to clean the toilet but would have moaned a lot about it afterwards lol. if he did the same again I would either tell him he needed to clean his mess, or more likely I wouldn't invite him back, on the basis of what does he think I am ?

icanhandthemback Tue 12-Jul-22 23:59:52

We have a silicon thing that looks like a tongue which is easy to clean and does a brilliant job. We found it at the Ideal Home Exhibition and I will never use a toilet brush again!

SueDonim Wed 13-Jul-22 00:10:41

Where do you keep the rubber gloves that have been down the toilet?

Baggytrazzas Wed 13-Jul-22 00:36:00

icanhandthemback -. The very thought of a tongue thingie associated with cleaning a toilet bowl is so horrible it's fascinating.

They're the best thing to deal with the skidmarks.
Short of a hammer and chisel, that is.

heath480 Wed 13-Jul-22 00:53:05

Haven’t had a toilet brush in my house for years and I have 4 toilets.

Disgusting dirty things.I have used the toilet duck one with disposable pads, but not recently.

My toilets are all immaculate,no limescale either.

SunshineSally Wed 13-Jul-22 00:53:31

MissAdventure ??

MissAdventure Wed 13-Jul-22 00:55:51

Surely the cloths and gloves are disgusting, dirty things?
Where do they go after you've wiped the lav out?
What washload do you put them in with, and how do you clean the gloves?

Teacheranne Wed 13-Jul-22 00:58:42

Toilet Duck with disposable pads are in my bathroom, would not have a traditional toilet brush as I shudder at the state of some I’ve seen!

MissAdventure Wed 13-Jul-22 01:02:16

And yet water companies tell us not to flush anything but, well, poo.

Grannynannywanny Wed 13-Jul-22 01:04:35

Those who are using the silicone tongue, cleaning cloths and rubber gloves down the toilet please come back and tell us how and where you clean them after use and where you store them. I’ve got enough to keep me awake at night without mulling this over!

MissAdventure Wed 13-Jul-22 01:11:49

You'll be dreaming about big tongues licking out the toilet bowl, now. smile
