Better still, put out a trap, take the rat in and plonk it on some jobsworth's desk.

Always provide photographic evidence for any complaint, so try and get pictures of any rats to show them as proof. Also note the day and time and how many. They always like a record kept otherwise it's all too vague: 'Well I saw a rat once but can't remember when'.

Otherwise you can always get a streetwise cat! Ask at the local shelter for one that looks like a ratter.

We live in the third house in a terrace. The first house has been empty for 3 years and the second is only occupied 3 time a year for a week at a time. Both gardens are like a jungle and are growing into ours. Both houses are in a terrible state of repair. We live by a river and have spent loads of money on rat poison, having had one in the attic and seen others in the gardens. The environmental health have been out and said they see no evidence of rats?? What on earth can we do as we're at our wits end here?
