Paint colours for living room

Would love suggestions for colour to paint my living room. We have inherited Dulux Natural Hessian. It is ok but would like to put our own mark. Rectangular room. Front faces East and back faces West. Dark wood laminate on floor. Beige Persian type rug.

We've been looking at houses on online estate agencies and the number of people who paint every room gray is baffling. It's like looking at a black and white movie, no colour at all, can't understand that trend. I don't go with the dark shades which are popular these days. My daughter's living room is a dark green but I wouldn't dream of saying anything about how dark and small it makes the room. I'm with posters who like light, bright colours
