Where does the dirt lie in and around your home?

I had a massive shock when I had both of my cataracts done last summer. Everything looked grubby. My perfect vision showed up every mark that my damaged eyes had not seen.... ?

It`s clean dust,i leave well alone,but offer a duster to Mr T if he spots any.
Don`t take things to heart Baggytrazzas,people are brave from a distance.
Thankfully,the majority of Gransnetters are a lovely helpfull bunch, who give good/great and honest advice.

If you want an argument on a daily basis just come on here ,debate discussion call it what you will

My sentiments too. I have never found this the most friendly of spaces but recently some comments on some threads have been quite spiteful and unpleasant.

To the subject in question: recently I was horrified to see the amount of limescale that had built up at the base of the kettle and its charging stand.
Yesterday, when the decor door to the fridge had to be mended and refitted I was appalled at how dirty both doors were, whereas previously I had fondly imagined that my fridge was clean!

Behind and at the sides of the fridge is a spot that harbours dust, errant frozen peas and crumbs, despite a regular hoover round. It’s a big fridge, though, so only gets pulled out of its housing every so often, hence the build up of the aforementioned. I’m amazed at some of the stuff that hides under it though.
Another place is under the dresser in the kitchen - those pesky daddy long leg type spiders must just hide and watch whilst I dust beneath it and behind it, then out they come building their enormous webs again as soon as my back is turned ??.

Hosepipe bands are a way for water companies to shuffle off their responsibilities to build more reservoirs and stop leaks in the mains which far outweigh hosepipe loss. It's a disgraceful monopoly and they should be taken into public ownership but I doubt Liz Truss would want to upset the Tories' rich friends.

☹️ it’s horrible isn’t it when too many threads get derailed but antagonistic GNers jumping on, it really makes me wonder why some have to be like this. It really puts me off reading or contributing.
My horror spots are under the big fridge freezer (absolutely no chance of pulling that out!) , under the cooker and the bottom of the fridge drawer- I am puzzled by the detritus that seems to accumulate there!

Its always in and behind my radiators. I've a long dust brush for radiators and stick the hoover pipe in the back of it and still it gathers. Oh and above the kitchen cabinets, hate climbing up there to clean.
I'm sure Baggytrazzas wishes she hadn't bothered today starting a thread. It usually buckets down with rain here in N.Ireland so we are lucky enough not to have water shortages like some other places or meters, well not yet anyway. Maybe if they sort out the leaks and have more water treatment plants it might help folk having to cut down so much.

Probably because it makes people feel good that they’re doing something “right” or at least not doing something so terribly “wrong”. Life’s a bit grim at the moment so saying anything that makes us feel better about ourselves, especially if it touches on the environment is a chance not to be missed.

Going back to the theme of the thread, I was very glad that I moved the old washing machine the day before the new one was due to be delivered. It took me some considerable time to clean under it. Then I moved it back into place and so when the men moved it to take it away there was very little that had been trapped underneath it for 16 years, but still some in spite of my cleaning.

Monica if your friend asked a lighthearted question, you would give her a lecture. Who needs a friend like that?

In real life I would have been far more vocal to a friend who had a hose on a plastic mat for 20 minutes.

Clearly I was wrong.

But if people get pounced on for starting threads they won’t bother, and the place will grind to a halt. It’s really off-putting to start a thread and have people criticise it. Disagreeing with a point of view is one thing, but picking on the premise of the thread is another. It’s happening a lot though - there does seem to be something in the water just now (see what I did there??).

Housework is a low priority for me. I am tidy though. I’m unlikely to say in my last days ‘I wish I had done more housework’!

I’ve just glanced at one about healthy eating featuring someone called Tim Spector.

The poor chap had apparently mentioned (or maybe filmed) a holiday in Spain, so of course that was immediately jumped on (“doesn’t he realise not everyone can afford holidays in Spain”), then he dared to recommend avocados which drew similar criticism.

Agreed, JenniferEccles. This has been a very odd thread.

Does anyone want to start a thread about how excited they are about a forthcoming holiday via a long haul flight, asking maybe for tips about what to see and do there, only for folk to pile in with lectures about how harmful air travel is for the planet, how irresponsible, what is the OP thinking etc etc ?
