Moving to South Wales? Where

Thanks. I think we might consider renting for 6 months. Good advice to try before committing

We live in Porthcawl moved here in 2020 during lockdown. Sold house in Nottingham as recently retired and rented a house in Porthcawl for 6 months intending to find somewhere between Swansea and Barry. It so happened that lockdown happened the week after we moved so couldn’t do any viewings for a few months.
But a house opposite our rental came up for sale needed a lot of updating but we were able to do this while living in the rental. Moving in when freshly painted and new kitchen and flooring completed.
Might be an idea to rent to get the feel of a place before committing. Porthcawl is a mainly elderly population with good transport links to Swansea and Cardiff and stunning walks along the coastline.

I live in South Wales. It does rain a lot here. The people are really friendly, which makes it worth it. I live in a tiny village, and it is a very happy place.

Moved from Wales 43 years ago but still go back twice a year. Ok it does rain a lot thats why it’s so green. The welsh are friendly .There’s so many beautiful place to live in South Wales . Coychurch a small village near Bridgend its near the M4 and easy to get to Cardiff on the train or car.

We lived in the vale of glamorgan, not at all far from cowbridge and the children went to cowbridge school. I would move back in a heartbeat, if my dd ever decides to move back to wales. It was fabulous for cycling, horse riding and walking. I loved s wales so much, the people, the nice shops, the nooks and crannies in cardiff centre, the good transport links

We downsized from the family home in a village, to pontyclun, also good with a good bus service and a train station, not as expensive as cowbridge, which I think now has a waitrose. We used to walk in ogmore, there was always a sewage smell there

Cardiff is the rainiest city in the UK Callistemon21, although as you say, not at the moment! My view of the weather is probably jaded because I live in the mountains, and we get more than our fair share, hence all the reservoirs I guess.
I agree re Penarth, also expensive I bet though?

I didn't know that. Manchester had that reputation at one time, I thought.

Our lawn has greened up already which must be a positive ?

We live in Bridgend. And often say how fortunate we are to live near so many lovely places. I would be happy to live in any of the places you’ve mentioned but if we were moving to this area now I would live in Porthcawl. We visit there at least twice a week ( and have had a lovely walk there this evening).

We moved from the supposedly wet West Country to the east of England and it didn't stop raining for a month! ?

Perhaps anywhere in the Vale of Glamorgan, Penarth or, if you want a swift exit to the Midlands too, further east eg the Abergavenny area?

I don't know how much it rains in W Sussex but we've certainly had a drought here too .
Seriously, I don't know that it rains that much more here than many other places.

It rains a lot in Wales Teebles64, there’s no getting away from that! However, that’s why it’s so beautiful - and we are a very friendly bunch, you wouldn’t regret moving here.
I’m no expert on the area you’re looking at, although I do have family in Cowbridge, which is a great place, with lots going on, but as you say, is very expensive. I also like Ogmore, which is nearer Bridgend, and on the coast.
