How to get a sparkly loo during a drought!

Flush quickly, because my loo is on the way to the front door.
And I always clean around the toilet and under the rim every weewee, too
That is where smells linger.

I couldn't bear not flushing, but we do have the dual flush things on our loos. Leaving urine unflushed would stain the bowl. There's a limit to what I'll do to save the planet! Leaving the loo unflushed or uncleaned is way beyond that limit. What do you do if you have unexpected visitors?

Just don’t flush so much, but I always clean mine every day, put bleach round every second day, but there’s just me. If I couldn't flush, I would save a bowl of water and use it.

I have found that it’s helpful to flush then use a loo brush to encourage as much water out as possible. Then I empty a small bottle of lemon juice into the bowl and leave the toilet unused for a few hours ( by going out). Then I brush and flush again. It works for me!

Hi, would it not be overall best to reduce the capacity of the cistern to as little as possible and just flush every time the toilet is used? Urine stains don't sound particularly healthy and cleaning materials to sort it out could cost as much as the water usage would have.

I've also read that some other GN posters save water from showering etc to use when flushing the toilet, which would surely be better than allowing it to stand to the point that stains have formed.

Less risk of explosions, too!

If it's brown, flush it down.
If it's yellow, let it mellow.
That's the advice.
(If any of it is any other colour, then get a doctors appointment. That's my advice)

Not just the drought, cost of water , especially if you go about 10 times a day like me !

Are we really in so severe a drought situation that toilets shouldn’t be flushed as used?

A colleague of mine once read that bicarbonate of soda would clean the toilet bowl so she sprinkled a sachet (it's sold in sachets here in Germany) in her loo and shut the lid.

Later, they were watching the news and heard an almighty bang - the whole toilet had exploded! (Don't ask me what happened next. If I ever knew, I've forgotten)

It should work, but leave the lid up! Powerful stuff!

It's more likely to be urine staining (uric acid?) than limescale, I think.
We have the same issue since we cut back on water usage following the fitting of a water meter.
No matter what cleaner we I use in the toilet, I now have to put on rubber gloves and use a nylon pan scrubber in the bowl to fully remove the staining.

White vinegar is my preferred option (but then it always is ?).

Coca-Cola. ? But get all the water out of the bowl otherwise it will be diluted.

A couple of Steradent tablets left overnight.

We have very hard water and a septic tank so I use vinegar gel.

Bio D toilet cleanser works well, with a bit of brushing

We have soft water so limescale is not an issue. I use toilet bowl cleaner and a toilet brush and occasionally leave bleach in the toilet for a few hours before flushing.
We once went away for a week and I cleaned the toilet before we left leaving it soaking in thick bleach. It etched the surface below the water line, so beware!

I have heard that a bottle of Coke or similar lifts limescale in toilets. As Coke dissolves teeth I suggest you go easy with the product.
