Window cleaner wanted

We pay £15 every four weeks. Ours is a three bed semi, no conservatory, which would really push the price up. I get him to clean the greenhouse too around this time of year. I think that costs about £20. We’re just inside Kent.

It can. We live in a village and the area is expensive and sought after. A few miles along the coast it’s a very different story. People such as window cleaners who live in a more expensive locality will obviously charge their clients more - they have to live. Ours gives us a sheet in December with all the dates on which he will call during the next year, together with confirmation of the year’s prices. A proper, reliable, and very hardworking, business man.

We have 38 windows, some quite large.

No. Individual cased windows. We like light.

Our home is an old farmhouse. Many added on rooms, the walls all have big close-together cased windows (2-3 inches apart).

The additions are all along the back and an upper Mansard addition, it looks like an ordinary old stone farmhouse - from the front.

Four bed detached with French doors here. I pay £17pm by bank transfer.

We live in Crouch End (London N8) and haven't seen our window cleaner since before the pandemic either - maybe because we only paid him £10 for a ground-floor flat! But he only took 10 mins... I'd happily pay more for a better job. Does anyone know of anyone round here? And yes, I could do it myself - but I've been saying that for nearly a year now...

We pay £45 bimonthly for a 6 bedroom terraced town house inc. French doors in Somerset. He does a good job.

We use Preen & Clean in Harrogate. They only charge £14.00 per clean and it's invoiced and paid online. There's 20+ windows (including an office bit at the back). They're really reliable and thorough (only outside done but that means I don't have to be at home...).

We have 30 windows and pay £12.50 spasmodically when he has the time to come.

Our wonderful window cleaner comes every six weeks and has just put his prices up from £4 to £5. We live in an average sized terraced house and he does almost every one in the street.

I’m in Midlands …I pay £13 for a trhee bed semi plus garage door and small window. Takes him about 40 mins and I think that’s ok. He’s only just put prices up after 10 years.

Christopher Columbus!! £6?? Is that a typo? Your house sounds similar size to mine and I pay £20, which is OAP- living- on -own- rate and probably very cheap for Berkshire! !

Front of house only...1 Bay, 2 bedroom windows, I door and fanlight £4 every 2 weeks.

Prices are irrelevant if people don’t say where they live.

We had chap a couple of years ago to clean out our guttering and downpipes, clean the fascia’s and clean the moss off the tiled conservatory roof on our four bed detached house here in South Yorkshire. He charged us £130 and did a very good thorough job. We have a window cleaner who comes every four weeks, cleans the windows and doors and the fifteen windows in the conservatory. The only window he doesn’t clean is the one above the conservatory roof as he can’t access it. He charges me eight pounds which I think is very reasonable.

We live in a four bed house and pay £11 per clean. For some reason they don't collect their money each time. I have £33 waiting to give them.

You actually get a window cleaner! My first one, very good, didn't like his white van getting muddy or dusty from the track I live along. The second one was really good too - but has disappeared without trace. Now I'm still trying to find another. Bungalow, 11 windows and patio doors, paid £15.

I have a three bed detached bungalow with an added garden room with two four section folding glass doors and a large glass lantern in the roof, plus a further pair of French doors. I use a professional company who use the pole system and I pay £16.00 every month! Looks like I am getting a good bargain!

Can't believe it's financially viable for some of these. And not every day of the year is suitable for window-cleaning either.

Running a work van, sometimes a distiller and water- pump too is all very expensive. Insurance and tax as well though at these prices, maybe some don't actually earn enough for tax to kick in!

Why not hose them down, to remove the majority of dirt - then ask around for more quotes?

NotSpaghetti, you're assuming that they all pay tax at the correct rate - highly unlikely! I won't pay cash for that reason.
