Kettle Recommendation

Good afternoon ..... I am looking for a stainless steel kettle for my daughter. That doesn't show any finger prints/smudges on it. Any recommendations please?

Taps improve with light oil too...

I also keep baby oil in the kitchen in particular for a stainless steel backsplash at the hob and the cooker hood. The kitchen installers have me this tip many years ago.

Thanks for the tip about light oil!

I have had a Russell Hobbs kettle for ages, and it's been easy enough to get marks off it. I do prefer a metal kettle to a plastic one, as I think the plastic ones make the water taste of plastic, which makes me wonder if I'm drinking plastic...

Yes, a bottle of Johnson's Baby Oil is in my under sink cupboard 🙂

A tip for keeping stainless steel looking good ( used in showrooms as their appliances get lots and lots of mucky finger prints). Put a teeny tiny bit of light oil (I use baby oil) on a cloth and wipe all over. Cooker hoods, oven fronts, microwave trims etc etc. polish off with clean cloth. Works a treat. Doesn’t last for ever but does last for a good long while.

I’ve had expensive Russell Hobbs kettles but by far the longest lasting, by many many years, is the cheapest Tesco Value one.

The Dualit stainless steel kettle doesn’t show fingerprints.

Probably Callistemon21 - but my daughter has this and I burn myself on it most times I use it! I discussed this with my husband and we think it's because I've got a weaker grip than him and hold the kettle differently.

DrWatson

Sorry Patsy70, your Morphy-Richards has an appalling handle and lid, positively dangerous with a scald risk. We used one at a holiday flat and it was awful !!

Well, Patsy likes hers.

Operator error perhaps?

I have a Le Creuset Kome stovetop kettle, polished steel. It does show marks but easy to rub off. I don't think it's possible for it to leak or rust.

LovelyLady I bought a Russel Hobbs Quiet kettle 18 months ago it is brushed steel effect.
It is certainly much quieter than a previous one that looked ”more stylish”
It doesn’t drown out conversations and normal tv volume etc
I have read that regular descaling helps also.
Though water is fairly low on lime in this house.

Hi madeleine45

I was just helping her look for one. It isn't a gift. If it was that's what I would have done.

I don't buy anything for my children without asking if they like it first unless I know it's something they use. Pointless if they aren't going to wear/use it. It's either that or money.

We bought an Asda kettle last month. £18 so cheap. It was so noisy it had to be returned. Can’t find a quiet electric kettle. If I’m in the kitchen, I want to be able to have a phone conversation without hearing a kettle.

Simplest way is to tell your daughter that you could not find what seemed appropriate so offer her the money to make her own choice!

I have a dualit and kitchen aid in the cupboard but actually use an Italian kettle for the hob, because i love the style. It matches my oil can.

My kettle has a gauge which shows me when I am boiling just enough for one or two cups of tea.

gransruleok Sun 08-Oct-23 11:33:42

I don’t understand why most folk have a huge kettle. Having stayed in hotels with small kettles, I investigated and have used a small kettle for many years. I think it’s one litre and a Breville. But other brands do small too.

Spidergran3 Fri 06-Oct-23 15:42:47

We’ve got a Dualit, the round dumpy one. Just about the only ones that can be repaired and can survive our hard water.

Callistemon21 Fri 06-Oct-23 10:42:56

LadyGracie

I have a Breville kettle too, the best one I’ve ever had, it’s quiet and quick to boil.

Yes, I should have said, it's quiet and quick to boil.

With having the temperature displayed too, you can check that it's 100C for tea and 85C for coffee (who knew that coffee should be brewed at 85C?!)

Callistemon21 I will show my daughter that one too later. It looks lovely.

Thank you all for your replies.

BigBertha1 when I left my husband in 2007 I bought all the Swan baby blue set myself. Even the microwave and canisters. Obviously a different design then. I loved mine too and had for about 10 years. Then I went with white and grey.

Notspaghetti I will show my daughter that one later today. Thank you.

NotSpaghetti Fri 06-Oct-23 07:05:44

I don't know how much you want to spend but I love this one:
www.dualit.com/products/classic-kettle?variant=45445502435639

It is cheaper elsewhere. I have had the polished version for years now and admire it every time I use it! (Sad I know).

Retread

A satin finish stainless steel does not show marks.

Apologies for sneaking in a kettle related question of my own ... but where does one find a kettle that doesn't sound like a jet engine taking off when it is heating up? Mine clatters so loudly I can't hear myself think.

Hi Retread try Russel Hobbs Quiet kettle. and descale your kettle often.
I have a kitchen -through -lounge so it was important because I do love my ☕️
