No not me, I try and get everything else done first - cards, gifts, donations and early food prep before I put up the decorations. that way I can enjoy doing it and it doesn't add to the general Christmas stress!

Mine go up to celebrate DS1s Birthday on the 15th always have done we always had a Birthd-day tea for him when he lived at home.
I will put up my outdoor tree lights over the week-end to dress up the drive way,

RosesandLilac Fri 08-Dec-23 12:47:46

No, minimalist me here. I might put the twiggy tree up but nothing else.
DH isn’t fussed and my record is decorations up Christmas Eve, down Boxing Day 😵‍💫

My youngest daughters birthday is today. The rule is no Christmas until after her birthday.

Cards are done, gifts are bought and wrapped, including for three December birthdays, but the tree will be brought in on Monday so that my daughter and granddaughter can decorate it with me. Last night I put out my nativity scene, the nutcracker, the mantelpiece garland, the front door ‘wreath’ (a homemade rag affair) and fairy lights around the porch door. Plenty more to do, but we’re in the middle of decorating the dining room, so it’s all a bit stressful.

However, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. 🎶🎵🎶

Everything looks lovely. I've got a few lights outside and the wreath on the door but nothing inside yet.

This is my first posting on Gransnet as I became a gran for the first time this year. I live in a small house so unfortunately havn’t room for a tree, however, I do have lots of fairy lights and a mini metal hanger from which I hang Christmas decorations.

Christmas tree up and decorated this morning, ready for my birthday.

Spec1alk Fri 08-Dec-23 13:38:54

Not this year! We have a 16 week old kitten and she is crazy! So the decorations are staying in the storage box this year.

rafichagran Fri 08-Dec-23 13:41:59

Not yet, two birthdays in December, so hope to go to the garden centre Sunday to pick a tree.

GrauntyHelen Fri 08-Dec-23 13:43:41

Third Sunday in Advent is soon enough for me The Advent candle and calendar are out and in use

Delene100 Fri 08-Dec-23 13:44:53

I started putting up mine 7 December. Certainly puts you in a festive mood. All my lights are battery or solar operated, except for one which I will be putting up tonight. 😂 😂 Tough on energy this year but for one month, why not?

Harris27 Fri 08-Dec-23 13:55:04

Yes mines up looks very festive!

welshgirl2017 Fri 08-Dec-23 13:59:24

No. I'm more a winter solstice person - lots of candles on the 21st :-)

Only cards going up due to us making our annual trip to Lanzarote for Christmas, home on 28th. My chronic spinal pain & sciatica in my left leg feel so much better in the heat/sunshine..

Musicgirl Fri 08-Dec-23 14:30:24

Happy birthday, Bessieb. I know exactly what you mean as it was my birthday on Wednesday. I don’t open Christmas cards until my birthday cards have been up for a week so they are stored on a shelf until next week. We are at the stage of getting out the decorations but are nowhere near ready. We moved house in the summer and can’t find quite a few of them. Our autistic son loves putting up and decorating Christmas trees so he is coming to stay for a couple of days next week in order to do it for us.

Scrabbling around to get as much done as possible - cataract procedure imminent!

4allweknow Fri 08-Dec-23 16:04:05

There will be none this year. If I intended to put any ip it wouldbe a couple of days before Christmas which is on 25th not in November, early or middle December.

BlueSapphire Fri 08-Dec-23 16:05:12

Going up tomorrow! Something to do on a long Saturday on my own.

Frenchgalinspain Fri 08-Dec-23 16:09:56

Greyduster Fri 08-Dec-23 16:51:31

Nope! I’m hoping to bribe someone (with roast beef and a Yorkshire pudding) on Sunday to go up into the loft and find the tree and other gubbins! I shall then take my time about putting them up……. Might be ready by Christmas Eve!!

essjay Fri 08-Dec-23 17:30:54

have taken them out of the cupboard ready to do in the next few days as have the grandchildren next weekend. Not bothering with a tree but have a light up village and and little village with a train going round it.My ever faithful arch gave up the ghost after 15 years.

CanadianGran Fri 08-Dec-23 17:41:06

My DH is really good about doing decorations. Starting on the 1st I would come home to find a few more things up. He does the lights outside after Remembrance Day, but we don't turn them on until the 1st.

We will get a tree this weekend. Everything will come down earlier than normal this year because we are going to our DD's on the 28th.
