Ooh it looks so lovely FrenchGal, I want to cosy up in front of your fire with a good book. Not sure if your house is old but older houses seem to lend themselves to Christmas don't they ?

I am jealolus of people who have a fireplace, as mantelpiece decorations look so lovely.

jealous not jealolus, though I probably AM that as well !

Frenchgal, your fireplace is truly beautiful, so cozy
We are putting our tree up tomorrow when the girls arrive (then I'll rearrange it all after they've gone home) 😉

Just arrived to spend Christmas in Aus with DD and grandkids. Couldn't be happier. All her decs are up and everything organised. So wonderful to be here with them. I'm the designated 'elf organiser' after bedtime hmm

No I’m finding it difficult this year I’ve been so busy finding a care home for mum, now that's sorted my DGD are busy every day right up until they finish school in two weeks time ! I can’t put it up without them though so goodness knows.

For the last few years I’ve put our decorations up in the first week of December as I think of Christmas as a Festival of Light in this dark month, and I leave our lights on into the first week of January.

I like to decorate my garden with baubles and tinsel on trees and shrubs , but it takes so long .
I vowed to start on 1st December , but I have the coughing bug and began yesterday .
It will look pretty -eventually !

Do you think this original post is a fraud/scam? There is no Louella on here. I’ve reread their two posts and they seem inauthentic. I’ve seen many pictures in American magazines that look like that fireplace. Wondering.

I think I’m going to be more careful in responding in the future.

Yeah the December birthday thing has lodged in my brain. Nothing until after the 16th.

See upthread - but if you are right it isn’t the first time and it won’t be the last !

Even if the original thread was made up - and l agree that the fireplace picture looks as if it is from a magazine as it is too "perfect" for the average home - it is still a nice, chatty thread.

Has anyone got a solution for bird seed table swimming in rain water?

MiniMoon Sat 09-Dec-23 09:51:37

The tree is up in our living room, the outside lights were hung yesterday by DH. I've still got the hall and dining room to decorate, but we are halfway there.

yogitree Sat 09-Dec-23 09:57:33

Just a tree in our house, which my daughter, granddaughter and grandson decorated on Thursday.

Absolutely beautiful. My husband died over 9 years ago and since then I have not trimmed up the house or put up a tree because I go to one son on Christmas day one year and our other son the year after. They don't come to my house so there is no point in putting up a tree etc. Our home used to be like Fairyland from the day we married until my husband died (50 plus years together) and I no longer have the heart or the inclination to even want to think about Christmas.

I hope you have a fantastic Christmas and a wonderful and healthy new year.

Grantanow Sat 09-Dec-23 15:30:54

Just hung a wreath on the front door.

Ikiesgranma Sat 09-Dec-23 15:39:39

We’ve put the decorations up in the living room and hall but we’re away this weekend so we’ll do the garden when we get home. Two Christmas trees outside and and a polar bear, reindeer, snowman and a dog. Unfortunately this may be my last Christmas according to my oncologist so I want the decorations to be memorable for my grandchildren.

Norah Sun 10-Dec-23 11:28:53

All week our eldest granddaughter continued decorating our playroom - she's been 'making your playroom Christmassy' -- she's her own family reasons, we can and do oblige whatever is asked of us. (If not for her I'd rather we wait another week, this is way too early for me)

Marmight Sun 10-Dec-23 11:40:50

Nope. I don’t usually put them up until just before Christmas & as I’ve just been in hospital, I can’t get the enthusiasm this year. All the Christmas decs are in the attic and may well stay there. I have to go for an op after Christmas and can’t bear the thought of coming home in February to find all the decs still up 🤣. I have a poinsettia and a mini Norwegian Santa on the dining table, that’ll have to do…..

Witzend Sun 10-Dec-23 20:36:58

Gdcs put the decorations and lametta on our tree on Friday.

rafichagran Sun 10-Dec-23 20:40:17

Lovely tree Wizend. I am getting mine tommorow.
