Do you plan to leave a few fairy lights up after Christmas? I shall keep a little twinkle in the kitchen and a little sparkle in the dining room, maybe more!
Someone posted a lovely pic of their beautiful houseplant festooned with lights a few weeks ago and it looked so pretty and inspiring. I can do with a bit of cosy this time of yearsmile

I have solar sparkles throughout the year.

At least 3 Christmases ago I draped a large house plant (more like a mini tree) with fairy lights, and after 12th Night thought I’d leave them there until the clocks changed in March.

They’ve been there ever since, but they’re not usually switched on in summer.

www.mirageweddingbackdrops.co.uk hire Christmas backdrops for Santa grottos and events. With or without lights. Saves the hassle of buying putting up and taking down of the decorations.

I've put all the Christmas decorations in the loft, apart from 2 sets of fairly lights that I shall use for birthdays/gatherings as I think they look incredibly cheerful.

Yes I shall be leaving a string of lights up on my mantelpiece.

Yes I too have a string of lights on my mantle shelf which I leave all year round. I first put them up 23 years ago when we moved here and in that time I have only had to replace them once. When the day is dark and dreary as it has been today I switch them on and they brighten the place. Tomorrow is my husbands funeral and as he loved them I am going to leave them on all day. I still have my outside lights on and they will go off on January 6th as I just follow the old traditions.

Everything came down yesterday except some twinkly lights in the conservatory. We forgot to take them down a few years ago and they've been there ever since. They do look lovely in the evening. I'd love fairy lights in the kitchen - a la Nigella -but DH says they'd get in the way.

Yes, I have some Moroccan style lights which I’m keeping over my mantelpiece. And this year we put some battery led lights above our bifold doors and they are staying up
as well . It’s cheering on dark days and nights .
We also have some outdoor lights in a gorgeous Japanese maple by the patio and these are on a timer and come on all year round .

Ab-So-Lute-Ly!! Enjoy!!

Mine stay up all year and are battery powered. When the batteries expire I tend to forget all about them but by then - hopefully the evenings are lighter anyway.

Yes...I have them in the dining room, conservatory and in the kitchen. They make me happy....a little bit of twinkle

Taking all down on 5th Jan. Normally it's 6th Jan/12th night/Epiphany but have a lunch invitation on the 6th.
I wouldn't leave fairy lights twinkling apart from at Christmas; to me they're lovely at Christmas and |I'd want to have them only at that special time.

Quite a few people here have fairy lights running along their balcony walls, very cheerful!

Danma Wed 03-Jan-24 15:03:13

I’m thinking of taking them off the outside of the hedge and putting them on the inside where we can enjoy them.

We have a string of fairy lights wrapped up in a lantern outside the front door that stays there permanently. Not many people see them as we don't face a road and have few visitors in the dark 😄

Many years ago we used to have an old fashioned lamp indoors with a fake flame (ran on batteries). When one of us was working away the lamp would be put in the front window on the day they were returning as a 'welcome home'. We used to call it our guiding lamp.

I'm taking my Christmas things down today but the pre-lit tree I keep in my conservatory never got put away all year once I took the baubles off and, as soon as the nights started drawing in, I lit it up. It was really cheerful. I'll do the same this year. It's not a fir tree. It's like bare branches so it doesn't look like a Christmas tree until I decorate it.

grandtanteJE65 Wed 03-Jan-24 14:23:20

No I shall put all decorations away on Friday, as it is the Eve of the Epiphany, and my plans for January and February this year entail re-decorating most of the house,

I have already started upstairs.

Actually, i have considered putting twinkly fair lights in various places, because they make me happy, they bring an instant 'feelgood' to me, so, yes, my twinkly lights shall find themselves wrapped around various bits and bobs and bring a touch of happiness.... i might even wrap them around the hoover 😲...... now that will be the 8th wonder of the world, happiness, joy and delight when hoovering 🤣😄😅😆

😂😂😂😂 brilliant!

DamaskRose Wed 03-Jan-24 13:57:21

Yes I have lights round my very large expanse of bookcases (ok so it’s not a library but it takes up a whole wall! 😂) and I will burn lots of soy and beeswax (allergic to paraffin) candles. All the decorations are down but it still looks cosy.

Oliviarae Wed 03-Jan-24 13:47:20

We always leave a small ornamental tree with flower LED lights in our window, we put it away when the evenings become lighter.

Evans64 Wed 03-Jan-24 13:13:38

I left mine up in the kitchen a few years ago. Tend to only put them on when the dark evenings begin, and they brighten my mood

I have a permanent string of Kasbah plug-in lights around the stair rails in the hall. I have them on a timer for only one hour a day, for the sake of economy. In the garden I have solar lights along the fence and around the shed. I used to have some copper leaf battery lights around my bed head, but had to remove them due to the cat playing with them at night!

Esmay Wed 03-Jan-24 12:05:40

I'm tempted - they are so pretty in this dull , wet windy climate !
A nice welcome home .
