Advice wanted please. Has anyone bought a new mattress recently and, if so, is it good? We definitely need a new one but don't know where to start.

Hypnos. 🙂

Emma Original premium. Bought 6 months ago and very pleased with it. I do like a softer mattress if that helps.

We have an Emma mattress, which is fantastic.

If you are able to, go and lie-down on some and see which is best

Love my emma mattress. Wouldn't want to sleep on anything other than memory foam now.

We replaced ours a year ago - Harrison Spinks. Wonderfully comfortable and well made beds. However, I do wish we’d purchased 2 x singles as opposed to the super king size as the mattress is extremely heavy when it comes to turning it!

Not everyone can cope with memory foam. Some people find it retains too much heat.
I prefer natural materials myself.
It depends how much you can afford to pay. I went to a big store recently. Prices ranged from about £200 to £4500!
Some companies allow you to try a mattress for x number of days then return if not happy with it. It is not an easy purchase as you really cannot judge in a shop, let alone online, whether it will suit you.
I need a new one but probably ought to get a new divan base as well. Double or king size? Storage drawers? Firm base, softer mattress? Mattress needs to be turned ( too heavy) or must not be turned? So many decisions.

I wouldn’t want memory foam either.

We bought a Harrison Spinks last year but returned it within the trial period. The style now seems for mattresses to have a built in topper which makes it very high and I felt like I was falling off it. I like natural materials so exchanged it for another make which is slightly lower. It has taken me several months to get used to it but it’s fine now.

Only thing is with these built in toppers you can’t turn the mattress completely only end to end.

The Hypnos mattress is very heavy too, all natural fibres.
It can be turned around but not over.

If one partner prefers a softer or medium mattress mattress they can be made with one side firm, one side medium.

Have you considered a wool mattress?
A friend recommended Millbrook Wool Luxury and we ended up buying the 4000 pocket sprung model.
We have had it 8 months and it’s the best mattress we have ever slept on.
I bought it online and it was delivered the following day at no extra cost..message me if you live in the north of England and would like the name of the supplier.

Ours contains wool.

After we'd ordered, I wished I'd ordered firm one side, medium the other instead of all firm, but in fact find it really comfortable.

Recent Hypnos, very comfortable in that it is firm and giving but I had to get a substantial cover as I was feeling the buttons as deep as they are. ( princess and the pea anyone ) .
As we are older it’s not ideal having to turn it periodically so I would definitely avoid that !

Mine came from John Lewis. If you can get to a JL store you can then try out the various mattresses. Should you decide to purchase a mattress there will be approximately a five weeks wait as all their mattress are made to order. You can sign up to their system for returning the mattress should you find it unsuitable after using it for a number of weeks.
I am very pleased with my mattress. Had it about six months now.

I went to Benson for Beds if you have a branch nearby. Found them very helpful. New mattress is comfortable with topper but is high. Spent £1250 only for mattress.

We bought a Harrison Spinks mattress in 2020 from an independent furniture store. It’s extremely comfortable. It is a ‘normal’ style, not one of the topper types.

Which is what I wanted but the style now is for built in toppers. Manufacturers all copy each other.

We have emma mattresses. Quite happy with them. One double and one kingsize.

Primrose Harrison still sell the normal type of mattress, such as these no-turn ones. www.harrisonspinks.co.uk/harrison/turn-free
