Re shampoo and conditioner, I stock up whilst in France and the shampoo opens at the top, the conditioner stands on its cap and opens at the bottom.

This isn’t an invention, I’d just like the nanny state to put plugs in the bathroom so I could dry my hair without an extension cable from the landing.

Ha ha 😀 I took a bottle labelled gym n swim to my weekly swim for washing my hair in the shower. It was months of wondering why it didn't lather before I realised it was conditioner. in tiny print

Good point, Grammaretto. I tend to use math shampoo and conditioner, and often get them mixed up. It would be so much easier of the labels had a large S or C on them so it could be read in a steamy bathroom without glasses on.

My pet hate are invisible labels on shampoo and body wash bottles when your glasses are off and you're in the bath or shower.
Waterproof specs or a magnifier or large print labels please.

I have found duvet covers with a hugely long zip on 3 sides. Just unzip, turn the top half back, lay the duvet on it. Pull the top half over the duvet and zip up, very easy. They can be found on, you've guessed it, Amazon.

I love our super-king duvet.
It's actually on a king size bed though. I don't find it any harder than a king size to be honest.

JustkeepswimmingDonna I also have a Dorma one with a zip - it is super easy. It is plain white percale but not sure if they still make it - most cotton bedding seems to be sateen these days which isn't my 1st choice - but I won't need new bedding for some time yet and maybe it will be more available by then...

I have a beautiful (but expensive) Dorma duvet cover and it zips up. Bliss.

I imagine that twin duvets are better than one enormous superking one, anyway, on a bed that size. They must be quite unwieldy.

I haven't seen a super-king sized coverless one. I think the Night Owl ones only go up to King, maybe because of the washing machine issue.

I don't think I could change a duvet cover on a super-king size.

I meant glad that I tried the single and didn't start by getting a double.

I tried a single Silentnight coverless one as an experiment before getting the Night Owl double. I am glad I did because I didn't like it - the acrylic surface was a bit "shiny" for me, and it was filled so full that it was very fat and had no "give". It was narrower too, because the fat filling used up in thickness the covering material that should have been width. It won't be wasted, as it can go on the single spare bed.

The cotton of the Night Owl one is a nicer texture than the acrylic, and it is just as warm with a bit less filling than the fat Silentnight. It did cost more though!

Mine are Night Owl ones, and 10.5 tog, which is great most of the year on their own. In the bleak midwinter I add a (washable) coverlet, which works really well.

They are not the same as 'normal' duvets - a king size one will fit in a standard washing machine. I have a washer/dryer, however, which has a smaller dry load maximum so in winter I dry mine over the bannister after starting it in the dryer. In summer it will dry on the line in an hour straight out of the washing machine. It's not like drying a 'normal' duvet at all.

Two singles could be washed separately, or on different days or weeks.

Mine is synthetic filled but has a cotton outer. I had to search to find it, most of them are acrylic, but natural fibre ones do exist. I already used a single ordinary one from Ikea, which has a white cotton outer, which I used without putting on a separate duvet cover, and washed every two weeks or so - very successfully, I could put it back on the bed the day it was washed. However it was only four and a half tog and not warm enough in colder weather, so I looked for (and bought) a coverless cotton one. I am very pleased with it so far.

I couldn't fit a super-king duvet in my domestic washer. It's full with just the duvet cover and maybe a couple of pillow cases.

Also, presumably they ard synthetic so not like cotton or linen on the skin.

But good that some of you find them useful.

You do get trackers for cats and dogs - I appreciate they're probably not a lot of help if the cat is already missing, as in your case, but might be of help in the future to someone.

Exactly as Elegran says. It's just a case of putting them in the machine, exactly as you would with the cover. They dry quickly - in a dryer, on the line, on an airer, over the bannister, however you usually dry your covers, then they go back on the bed. I have a spare for each bed that uses them, but TBH they are rarely used, as the duvets dry very quickly and are washed and dried on the same day.

No, washing them is NOT more trouble than changing them. That is what washing machines aand tumble-dryers are for. You just have to stuff it into the washing machine, then take it out when the cycle is finished and stuff it into the tumble-dryer. To change the cover you have to wrestle with something that needs arms twice as long as yours, risking vanishing into the cover along with the duvet, and have the muscle-power to shake it once it is into the cover so that is evenly distributed and not hunched up in one corner. None of the magic ways to put it on work for me.

I don't use a tumble-dryer, but I have an X-legged clothes horse with wings, where the washed duvet can be spread out to dry.
