What do you keep out on your kitehen worktops?

I am soon going to have the kitchen diner repainted and am trying to find space to put things away but my kitchen is small. I am quite happy in normal times to have a number of items on my worktops. I don’t want to be climbing or bending to get things out to use, nor am I a minimalist. I offered various items to my daughter and granddaughter to make some space and they want me to put everything away permanently.
What do you happily leave out on your worktops?

Did I mention the smart meter?
It sits in the corner, telling us off!

😁

It is bossy, though, and we can't seem to adjust it!

*You have exceeded your weekly budget!!*

My display is switched off, in its box, in a cupboard Callistemon I don’t need that!!

I have a couple of black wooden trays, on which I group things (eg the kettle, Velvetiser and frother) so they appear as one item rather than several. It looks neater and more deliberate than having lots of miscellaneous things hanging about.

Looking up Velvetiser ......
It sounds like something you wear

I can’t bear loads of stuff out on show.
I have air fryer
Fruit bowl
Matching canisters for teabags, coffee and sugar
Salt pig
Vase of tulips.
Diary on a stand.

Wasn't having a go Doodle. Someone else mention random stuff. My stuff is deliberate and random spoils it totally. grin

Doodledog Sun 07-Apr-24 12:08:10

Oh yes, me too. I was just saying that (IMO) it can look nice to use trays to group things, not that others have unnecessary items on display grin. Obviously people should take that idea or leave it.

All the stuff I have out is deliberate and is either because it looks attractive or is useful being out.

I hate crowded worktops so I have air-fryer, kettle, toaster and kitchen roll holder. Everything else is in cupboards/drawers.

Reading these posts, I think I must buy a salt pig 😃

Mine was actually made in the U.K., not in China!

I’m a minimalist so as little as possible for me. Today I have a bunch of yellow tulips. Everything else is stored away.

Gwyllt, I forgot the food waste bin. It’d be in the utility if we had one - as it is, it’s near the sink.

am enjoying reading these results to the OP.
I have a constant battle with my worktop situation which currently hold
Kettle ,
Coffee Machine
Biscuit Barrel
Jug holding Utensils
That’s one side of hob on the other is
Nespresso Machine
Glass Jar with Coffee Pods
Small Kliner with fruit teas
Wooden fruit bowl
Then the last part by back door has Kitchen Aid mixer

I have relegated the air fryer monster to the under stairs cupboard
I am always putting things in cupboards ,like the kettle & small Nespresso machine
Toaster & Bread Bin are on shelves at the end of the units
Tea,Coffee !sugar are on wall shelves

Correction: it is untidy this morning, DH said he'd clear up after dinner last night, I even put a tablet in the dishwasher ready .......

Gwyllt

Calli. If you bought a salt pig would you be able to find it 😄

😃
My kitchen isn't untidy Gwyllt but it's not minimalist either!

At the moment the sea salt for cooking is in a re-usable Douwe Egberts coffee jar in a cupboard. I know exactly where it is but might not be able to find it if it's right in front of me on the worktop
😁

MissAdventure I’m with you. If I put gadgets away, I don’t use them (Nutribullet for example). My list would be too long and eccentric. It includes a cookery stand with the piece of music I’m memorising, a large open coffee table type book to glance at when waiting for something to cook, a Hawaiian hip shaking girl on windowsill, waving Chinese good luck figure,
large black tin tray, repro of Victorian Windsor Castle et.etc.

Yes, I’m a maximalist, but it’s quite a large kitchen.

Doodledog Sun 07-Apr-24 09:08:43

I like to have often-used items on my worktops. I have a working kitchen, not a showroom, and to me, life is too short to want to keep going to cupboards to put things away and get them out again. I am not a fan of open-plan, so it’s not as though we live, or even eat, surrounded by gadgets and food preparation items.

From memory (I am not in the kitchen) I have:
A wire egg basket (with eggs)
A kettle, velvetiser and milk frother on a tray
A set of scales
A Magimix
A toaster
A microwave
A Ninja Foodi
A butcher’s block with bread on it
A knife block
A fruit bowl (with fruit 😀)

Many of those items match, (I think everything is either copper or black), so I do consider aesthetics, but my priority is convenience.

Kettle, toaster, airfryer, on counter top and on the island are a fruit bowl and a chopping board and vase of flowers. My micriwave lives in the utility room.

OldFrill Sun 07-Apr-24 00:44:03

A kettle. A surgeon could probably operate on my worktops.
