What do you keep out on your kitehen worktops?

I am soon going to have the kitchen diner repainted and am trying to find space to put things away but my kitchen is small. I am quite happy in normal times to have a number of items on my worktops. I don’t want to be climbing or bending to get things out to use, nor am I a minimalist. I offered various items to my daughter and granddaughter to make some space and they want me to put everything away permanently.
What do you happily leave out on your worktops?

As little as possible... I hate my kitchen 'cluttered' with gadgets. All gadgets are in cupboards out of sight. 😃

Does anyone else suffer from a husband who just dumps with impunity in the kitchen At the moment I can see 4solar lights. A hammer a chisel a box of poly filler. A bunch of dead flowers with newspaper and candle which for some reason he wants to take a photo of.

😁

I didn't list DH's stuff!

I can add to my kettle and toaster - a vase of lovely flowers received today, the latest instalment in a monthly subscription my son bought me for my birthday. I never buy flowers for myself or cut those in the garden except sweet peas.

Everything, including the kitchen sink.

I like a cluttered look, and actively persue it.

We have a kitchen/diner and find the less that is out the better.
Too much and it seems cluttered and untidy.

Kettle, toaster, toastie-maker, food-waste caddy, Magimix, Kenwood 'mini', butter dish. At the moment, I can see a number of things to be put away or recycled. Clutter is my middle name.

Food mixer, revolving spice rack, toaster, kettle, bread bin, knife block (chopping boards live behind this and the bread bin), salt pig, oil bottle, Tower 10 in 1, stacking colanders.

Microwave, halogen cooker, radio/cd, trays, on one worktop.
Toaster, electric tin opener, and draining tray for washed cutlery on another. Then meds, vitamins, shopping list pad and pen, and a selection of stacked plates and bowls to save me keep having to delve into lower cupboards because of my back problems, on the third worktop.
It does feel a bit cluttered, but I quite like it that way.

I have no space in my narrow galley kitchen .I keep emergency canned goods in the cupboards and there's not much room for storage .
The counters are rather cluttered .
I've had to rely on those emergency stores when unwell so they are essential .
I'm not going to worry about it !

Kettle, jar of kitchen tools, spaghetti maker, stupid fomo recycling bin they make us have here, a small basket with washing up and hand wash things. A coffee machine and milk frother. The bin we have been given has these nasty green liners supplied by the council. When you empty it the bottom always falls out and in the hot weather flies and nasties get into it and it stinks. Someone’s bright idea, waiting with fearful anticipation to hear the incidence of stomach ailments has gone up.

And the Victorian weighing scales and weights, that I still use.

Maggiemaybe Fri 05-Apr-24 23:42:35

shall we do shelves next?

Oh, I already have, sorry! blush

And how could I have forgotten Alexa’s little sister Echo, who lives on one of them.

Working my way round the worktops, from memory, coffee maker and grinder, pasta jars, butter dish, pestle and mortar, recipe stand, chopping board, trivets, coffee maker number 2, toaster, microwave, bread board, bowl of eggs, various oils and vinegars, wine cooler, plants, utensil tub, knife block, kettle, teapot, coffees, teas, sugar bowls. On open shelves - decanters, jugs, jars of herbs, an old Tilly lamp, scented candle. On a tall shelf unit - china, big cake tin, big mixing bowl, grandsons’ plates, bowls, cups. On an old washstand - flour and sugar tins, vase of flowers, soup maker, bread maker, smoothie maker, blender. On the table - salt and pepper, bowl of grapes, bowl of tomatoes. Over in the corner - various bottles of booze.

The compost and food waste bins are on the cellar head.

I do have cupboard space as well, honest. smile And I have plenty of clear space to work on.

Tenko Fri 05-Apr-24 21:53:16

Siope

If I could, I’d have empty worktops. As it is, I have the microwave, toaster and kettle on them, and the food waste caddy lives in a corner of the draining board, which I rarely use.

My food waste caddy has to live in a cupboard due to having a greedy Labrador
