Nothing can guarantee a rental. A private landlord’s family circumstances could get out of control, nobody knows what the future holds so what may seem safe now could turn out not so in a week’s time. My parents bought sheltered housing but when one died the other had to go into a home, unfortunately my father didn’t recover the value because it was a ‘sheltered home’ when it had to be sold.
In London there are housing trusts such as the Peabody and Guinness trust . Both were set up by Victorian philanthropists to house workers . My in-laws lived in a Peabody trust 2 up 2 down terraced house in Battersea . You have total security unless you’re a nuisance tenant . My aunt and cousin lived in a Guinness trust flat for most of their lives. I’ve no idea how you apply .
I think the Peabody and Guiness Trusts are now Housing Associations and work work closely with Local Councils in allocating their accommodation. You owuld need to be on a housing list and await your turn to get one of these homes.
