Cleaning skirting boards

Does anyone have a method for cleaning skirting boards that doesn't involve getting down on my hand and knees?

I ca do the dust with the extension on my vacuum cleaner but even that isn't great. Sometimes they need more than just a dust.

Thanks

I was thinking about this as I was cleaning my bathroom this morning. I did get down and clean them but it wasn’t easy! I shall have a look at the microfibre suggestions from Callistemon (I think).

I might order another one, mine was from IKEA and must be vintage by now!

When I'm vacuuming I run along them with the fine nozzle of the vacuum. I can still get down on my hands and knees so I wipe them that way.

I have read though, that using fabric softener on the duster when you wipe them over prevents dust building up. Alternatively those dryer cloths which you put in the dryer to give the washing a gentle scent. You can use used ones. I have neither of these in the house and anyway, don't really have skirting boards much. Different system in Germany.

I use kitchen wipes to frequently give a quick wipe along top of skirting board where it joins wall, makes a big difference

I don't think I can change them all to plastic.

The style of mine is called torus so they have quite a few ins and outs to clean.

I knew to avoid that type when we redid ours.
And they are a dark colour too.

An occasional wipe, on hands and knees I am afraid.
Once I am down, I keep going!

I have that style of skirting boards, painted wood not plastic, and don’t find them a problem at all. They are just automatically dusted when the room is dusted and wiped very occasionally.

I use an old fashioned mop and bucket and just go over them with it before I mop the floor. The mop with long cotton tassels that you ring in the bucket top fitting. Do the kitchen kick boards with it too.

I’ve never done it in my life. They look fine to me anyway but I am tall 🤣

Goldie, this is the answer. It's what I do anyway.

I use an extendable pole thingie with a micro fibre attachment that can easily be taken off to be washed. You get them on Amazon. I also have a small one to use fir dusting tops if tables etc.

It is funny as I remember a time when I would religiously wipe my skirtings , especially the ones on the stairs , quite ess as y when walking up etc
Downstairs was fine as I had natural wood but my dh cchose to have painted. When we had a house refurb , I rarely do the now !! 😂

Some people are fussiest than others about this sort of thing. Last time I moved before here a friend helped me arrange my cupboards including one with ornaments. A year later she asked me how I had rearranged the items. I had never looked at them.
Another friend regularly empties shelves and washes all the items before rearranging g them.

The last time we decorated our living room we had plastic skirting board fitted in our living room and it looks like yours, it is available in various styles.
