Hi everyone .
Has anyone had their bathroom refitted recently and if so what sort of cost?
I have a smallish bathroom and want the bath removed and a walk in shower put in , plus new toilet, sink etc .obviously tiling and flooring .

The cost is as long as a piece of stringdepending on your choice of fitments.

Have a look at this site. It will help you. Google 'cost of refitting a bathroom and you will find other sites that will also help you estimate the probable cost of your refit.

We have a smallish bathroom and are doing similar to you,

Probably going to cost about £15000, we’ve bought the tiles and vanity unit ourselves, the rest of the items will be included in the £15000, possibly a bit more, but we will have to do a tally up,when it’s completed. MrOops usually thinks of other things that can be done as we go along…….

It also depends on what they find when old tiles are taken off, our quote includes re plastering if required ( it will probably be needed)

We had our en-suite gutted and redone in March, roughly 4m x 2.5m. Everything removed, new pipe work, re plastered, bigger shower, new washbasin and comfort toilet fitted, we bought the tiles, MrJ re tiled it. Apart from the tiling it cost approx £1,800.

Make sure the shower is big enough to house a separate stool. You may not need it now but mine is a Godsend.

I think the tiling cost the most because I wanted the floor tiled and then floor to ceiling for the walls. I also bought a raised loo seat and what a difference that has made.

Thanks everyone. Some excellent information. I am astounded at the cost, but needs must and it desperately needs doing.
They are now booking into the new year! Tbh, I’m surprised that they are so busy with the cost of living crisis.

My partner is about to have his tiny bathroom refitted. He's going to swap the position of the toilet and sink, but apart from that, it will be ripping everything out and installing modern fittings plus retiling and painting etc.

He's been quoted about £3500 by a local tradesman for the work plus whatever the new fittings cost (about £1500-£2000).

growstuff Tue 30-Jul-24 18:34:00

Plus skip hire.

We had a small bathroom fitted during covid. Like you are doing, we had the bath removed, new toilet, basin, tiling all walls, and floor.
The cost was £12,000.

I was quoted around the £8-10000 mark last year. I am still saving up...!

Sorry, I dug out the wrong invoice, it was £2,900.

My son did mine at mates rates obviously, but you can price everything up in the likes of Wickes and add labour on from there. I had the room gutted including floor taken up and re-plastering. Apparently I'm somewhat fussy and demanding ( cheek of it ) Anyway my fittings came to about 3 grand which I thought was cheap and labour was on top. He's a fully qualified Plumber by the way and did a great job. Thank God I have a Plumber for a Son some of the above make my eyes water.

Mine starts next week. It has come in at £18000, which is a lot more than I expected when we started getting quotes (more than we paid for our first house grin), but that is for knocking down the stud wall to the separate loo, replacing and moving said loo (so moving the soil pipe), a new bath, shower, basin and units, as well as lowering the ceiling and replacing it with a UPVC one, and all the tiling, lighting, flooring and accessories. It also includes skip hire and waste disposal. The people we went with are in the middle of the quotes price wise, but there wasn't much in it. I think they are just expensive now.

We had new bathroom fitted last year by local plumber. New bath, sink, toilet plus walk in shower added (no ensuite). Flooring replaced, tiles removed although only half tiled. I bought new tiles online, the fixtures were from a local building supplier. Total cost came to 5k.

Do get a comfort style ‘rimless’ loo.

Much, much easier to keep nice and clean.

Doodledog Wed 31-Jul-24 23:10:37

That’s what we’ve gone for (a comfort height rimless loo). I’m getting excited now grin.

Sikipoo if you use Facebook there is a group called Bathroom Ideas, Design and Inspiration UK that you might like. People ask questions about suppliers, designs, products, pricing and so on.

Had mine done early last year...bath out and a large walk in shower, new toilet, sink / vanity unit etc. I also had tiling and flooring relaid.

Mine was in the region of 5k - I used a recommended local tradesman.
Really happy with it all.

Doodledog Thu 01-Aug-24 12:38:49

Can I ask how long yours took, Dee?

I was shocked at the cost of mine - I expected it to be about half of what it's turned out to be - and when I hear of people getting theirs for so much less, I do wonder if we've been overcharged. It's too late now, but I'd like to know why it's so expensive. They are going to take 2 weeks, so I'm assuming most of the charge is labour, and but even so. Ours is a local firm too, and we aren't in the SE.

Three pieces of advice, if I may, having recently had mine completely replaced. 1. Whatever you've been quoted and chosen, add two grand !
2. Get the biggest possible shower cubicle your bathroom will take. Feels like such a luxury.
3. Have a long grab-bar in it. You can get really funky ones these days ! Recommend you Google some.
I found it all a very wearing process, but oh boy is it worth it in the end !!
Good luck smile

I should also add: Non-slip shower tray is a must 👌

Had a small dining room with a small WC next door converted into utility and shower room 2 years ago. DH knocked down and rebuilt the wall and did all the tiling. Shower, loo and washbasin unit all from B&Q and plumber to connect everything. £4000.

Fizzynana Thu 01-Aug-24 13:58:05

Ours cost £10K which included taking out the old suite, tiles and flooring but it is worth every £.

Took out the corner bath and put a standard one in, it ment we could fit a large walk in shower (didn't want to get rid of the bath completely) which is brilliant.
We also fitted a floating sink with built in drawers.

We didn't go for ceramic tiles but composite panels that look like large tiles instead and although they cost pretty much the same as tiles, they're a lot easier to keep clean (no grout)

👍
Ours is a block, not a tray. Impossible to slip, but I am still careful to rinse conditioner off well before I move to get out.

Ours took nearly 3 weeks, but part of that was waiting for the wall mirror company to take laser measurements and return to fit.
