We don't like Air Fryer chips

I have an all singing all dancing air fryer that produces dry, crisp chips.
We always thought we liked dry, crisp chips, but I've come to the conclusion we like soggy chips because the ones the air fryer produces are really so disappointingly dry they're tasteless.
Twenty years ago I had a tefal air fryer which only cooked chips (and a few other things like sausages) made lovely chips - but it died and my new Air Fryer which does everything does not produce nice chips - even with extra oil.
Do they make them any more?
Not even Amazon seems to supply one.

I rarely cook chips in the air fryer or anywhere else, but when I do I use ordinary fresh potatoes, skin and all, cut them into chips, spray thoroughly with oil and the final result is really edible. Not like chips shop chips, but chip shop chips are a product on their own and no one else can come close to reproducing them, not chain restaurants, burger bars or home cooks.

So, generally, the same but much faster than you could do in an oven then.

I chop my potatoes (check your potatoes are suitable for chips), place in dish, slightly dry, I then lightly sprinkle a good olive oil & rosemary, they come out beautifully crisp, not dry - same with my roast potatoes- part boil for five minutes, sprinkle with olive & rosemary, just lovely 😋 mine is just a cheap daewoo

Try McCain chips. Also try reducing time in air fryer, I only put them in for 12 mins.

Iceland do air fryer French fries & crinkle cut chips. We tried the latter as dh cuts his own home made chips so they're crinkly. They arrived Saturday & they are expensive for what you get. Nearly £4 for a small bag & don't taste any different to dhs chips. Will be going back to Tesco crinkle cut oven chips!

We have only just got round to trying Air Fryer chips and I agree with you.

We have also decided to go back to using and old fashioned chip pan and beef fat. No idea where I'm going to get some from but here goes.

I use Maris piper in the air-fryer, perhaps not as good as double-fried in a chip pan in lard, but so much healthier. I haven't tried oven chips in an airfyer because we couldn't find any oven chips we liked for the oven so I got an airfyer & cook them from scratch, & they really aren't much trouble. I don't like chips too dry, crispy outside but mushy in the middle for us.

I like air fryer chips. Occasionally I have fish ‘n’ chips from the local shop and there’s always too many chips for me so I freeze what’s left over and cook them when I want them in the air fryer which takes away any sogginess.

I always deep fat fry chips as OH prefers them, although I have an air fryer.

The fryers themselves are electric and use cooking oil.

We've had air fryers since they first came out and progressed onto the double one last year which is used almost daily - however my husband has taken to making his own fish and chips so we bought an old fashioned electric deep fat fryer from Argos a few months ago. It does make tastier chips but we only use it now and again for obvious health reasons but they are still available.

DGC like granddad’s chips best. Made from scratch and fried in oil.
We like Albert Bartlett’s crinkle chips, spiced wedges and those tinned potatoes, drained, sprayed with oil and a bit of garlic salt. Actually those are even better with the lemon salt we bought recently.

I agree. I have tried to make ‘real’ chips, but with little success.
Nothing is as good as Golden Wonder or Cyprus potatoes fried in beef dripping for me.

i have chips maybe once a month, i cook the oven chips for 15 mins then finish them off in pot with oil, i always have a pot with oil as i like roast potatoes but not frozen packs, i have baby potatoes one night then slice and roast the left overs in the oil for tea the next night...perfect.

Unfortunately, it does rather look like the Tefal Actifry is no longer being manufactured. I think that they don't have the longevity of other air fryers. I really love mine but I can see other air fryers might be more versatile.

Albert Bartlett crinkle cut frozen chips are very good and tasty, but they are more expensive.
Can’t always find them in supermarket either, unless I go to Waitrose.

lets face it, unless chips are fried they are not the real deal smile

I find french fries are nicer in the air fryer

I detest soggy chips, rather too dry. I spray them lightly with that spray olive oil first if I am doing them in the air fryer.

And I haven't tried myself but have you tried frozen triple cooked chips?
I have cooked them in the oven, so assume in a Airfryer it should work? they are definitely more crunchy and "soggy".

I do not like normal sized frozen chips cooked in my air fryer. I also like French fries and I buy the cheapest available. I never add oil to anything.

Numerous posts on GN convinced me I could make good chips in an air fryer. I have bought one and the family say they do not taste half as nice as my old method of double deep frying on the hob. I am sure the air fryer version is much more healthy but we rarely have chips so will cook them the way we like.
I am surprised the majority buy frozen as they take up so much room in the freezer and cost so much more than a few spuds that can be peeled and cut in a few minutes. I suppose if you are short of time but I have plenty of that!

I have a deep fat fryer mainly because my spoilt son only likes homemade chips .I bought it in Curry,s online ,I double fry my chips 60degrees then take out and dry off put them back in at 90degrees to brown and crisp.Makes great chips I have the bigger one ,my son is a gannet,but my late Mil had a smal one serving one and it was fine…except the basket was difficult to clean .

I like Lidls deluxe chunky oven chips made from Maris piper potatoes , they are in a black bag in the freezer
I really fancy fireing up the Airfryer now !!,
