House Deep Clean - Advice needed please

Cleaners never seem to do plug holes. I’ve got a thing about dirty plug holes!

Oh, that's great to hear! I never think to dust walls, but picture rails and skirtings look so much better when they are cleaned. Dado rails, too.

UPDATE! What a wonderful job they did! Lisaangel10, patio doors and surrounds spotless! Lampshades too. Walls dusted! The kettle is now sparkling. I am delighted. Baggs, they really did - our old kitchen looks sparkly now. Thanks again everyone. If anyone's in Scotland and wants their name etc let me know.

polishing the cupboards

OMG! One's supposed to do that?!? 😱

My niece just moved into a property which the agency were supposed to have had deep cleaned.

The lampshades were thick with years and years of grey dust. The patio doors were covered in mould on the inside as was the kitchen window.

I don’t call that a deep clean.
I told her to take photos and complain.

Thank you all so much, lots of useful advice. I now know what I have to do. There will be 2 of them and they are doing all hoovering, mopping with disinfectant, dusting and polishing, bleaching of bathroom, kitchen cupboard doors outside, moving small appliances to clean under, fan, hob, worktops all surfaces, tables, chairs, moving of furniture, cleaning skirting boards, internal doors/door handles/switches, all inside windows and much more in-between. Thankfully, it is a small home and they will have 3 hours for 2 of them to get round it. I just need to tidy my study - everything else is reasonably organised and clear. Thanks again!

I would move things off kitchen worktops if you have anywhere to put them. Get as much as possible off the floor, even if that means putting things on sofas or beds. That way they can vacuum, wash skirting boards, clean the kitchen etc without having to move them first. I wouldn’t bother with ornaments and things that can be lifted, cleaned underneath and put back.

Are you going to be in when they come? If so, you can ask them what would help. If you’re going out, which would be my preference, you can leave a note saying what you want doing most, so you know they will prioritise that.

I used to put things away just to make it easier (and faster) for the cleaner. I didn't want to pay for them to move and dust the ornaments when they could be cleaning the bathroom floor, or polishing the cupboards. I just dusted the ornaments as I put them back.

If it's a deep clean I would definitely expect them to move everything to dust and polish, not just dust around them.

Depends whether 6 people arrive, for instance.

I would definitely declutter. Take things off shelves and windowsills. 3 hours doesn’t seem very long to me. Does it include moving furniture and washing down skirting boards and door frames etc ?

Assuming it’s not a total tip yogitree 🙂 (if it was they’d have quoted longer), I’d just leave things like ornaments, they’ll move them about.

Agree, de clutter as best you can.

Not clean but at least tidy. No point paying someone to put things away when they would only be guessing where things lived. You will get much better value for your money if the cleaner can just wizz through. Your home so your rules as to what does and doesn’t constitute a deep clean
