I think the rubber can perish so be careful when filling them

Be very careful because I had a one that was fairly new and it leaked and soaked into the mattress.

A big no for hot water bottles from me. Burns . They are dangerous and a liability. Electric blankets are very cheap nowadays, and can warm your bed much better and safer, not those you keep on all night, but an underblanket.

Allsorts, if you look at the top of the hot water bottle, there’s a code in the form of a circle with ‘segments’ marked in it. In the middle is a number. A sort of ‘best before’ or the date it was made. 🤔 I think….
As mine says ‘21’ maybe I need to replace it. Maybe Google can explain better. ☺️

I have an old stone one but I don’t use it these days. I have an electric blanket instead and a rubber bottle in case of power cuts. The stone ones could be very hot unless you wrapped them in something and if you kicked them out of the bed there was a heck of a thump😂

I have a wheat bag, shaped like a hot water bottle. You heat it in the microwave. Works well and safer than hot water bottle.

I had one burst on my feet, so please be careful.

Love my hottie bottles have used them ALL my long life Never ever have I looked at dates on them although I know they are there and where to find them , you can be very aware of when they start thinning and then is the time to throw them out
I don’t rate electric blankets you can’t cuddle them and wheat bags don’t stay hot enough for me bearing in mind I have no central heating in my house

I had one burst in the bed but it was quite old . So I bought a new one 3 years ago but have now replaced with another new . I think 2 years is the max time for safety

I have a “foot size” electric heating pad that I use instead of a full size electric blanket - I find once my feet are warm I’m fine! In other words, no hot water bottle (or even full size electric blanket) required

I also have an electric blanket, absolutely love it

I wouldn't use a hot water bottle far too dangerous.
I have a electric under blanket which I love. Switch on while getting ready for bed for 10 minutes and again if I'm cold during the night.

Get a Hottie from Ebay. Two mins in the micro. Soothing for any aches

I read last week that you had to check the date at the top of the water bottle as rubber deteriorates in time. I checked my water bottle but could not see any numbers at all so I threw them out.

If I were you I would buy new ones just to be on the safe side.

I have used hot water bottles with no safety problems for years. However, I would never use an old one. I don’t think it’s worth the risk of serious scalding. A friend of mine at university had one burst over her legs.

According to the instructions, it’s important not to fill them more than 2/3 full. I guess the hot water gives off steam and that causes the rubber/plastic to expand.

I have three hot water bottles which i have just got out ready for winter. One is dated 2006 other two 2012.
They don't leak or anything does anyone else have any that old

I have a couple of very old light bulbs they just keep on going but most I have replaced with LED ones.I think hot water bottles used to go on for years but I wouldn’t trust them nowadays.Replace them if you can from a reliable shop.

I've been using hot water bottles all my life and with no problems whatsoever. However, I do buy new ones every 3 or 4 years as the rubber does perish in time.
I don't like electric blankets.

I actually use electric hot water bottles at the moment. You plug them in to heat up and then unplug them to use. They are very convenient in the middle of the night if you want a hotter hot water bottle.

I was a bit doubtful about the safety risk, but I have used them since October last year with no problem so far. They don’t work well for very long (about six months), so there is no chance of me using an old one.

Love my electric blanket, love getting in to a toasty bed, also have an electric heated over blanket that me and my little dog use when watching tv, lovely and toast and saves on the heating

I'm a number 1 fan of hot water bottles (known as hoggles in our household ever since youngest dd named them thus as a young child, being unable to say hot water bottle). I replace them every year or so and definitely if the "rubber" begins to feel hard. I think of them as being made of rubber but I'm not sure what they are actually made of these days.

I am going to post a picture of what happened to my daughter after one burst on her.

She had to spend 9 days in a burns unit having the skin peeled off her on a daily basis, and it was excruciating!!

Get yourself a heated throw, an electric blanket or a wheat bag!
