Whatever happened to good old THIN bleach?

I know exactly what you mean. Our Sainsbury’s hasn’t stocked it for a long time - used to come in a fat, whitish- coloured bottle and was perfect for stained pots etc as many have mentioned as well as soaking dishcloths. All I can find is toilet bleach with the narrow neck which is much too thick for my purposes.

Some so called thick bleaches are not especially thick, I’ve found - usually the cheaper own brands (tho this can vary). I’ve bought bleach in B & M and The range labelled as thick bleach to find it not to be thick at all.

Waitrose may, theoretically stock thin bleach, but none of my local branches stock it.

We visit France regularly and it is still available everywhere there and I always return with several large bottles in the back of the car.

Never heard of ‘thick’ bleach, I have to say. Bleach is bleach here. I use it in my teacups to get the tannin stains off. Then we drink it to save costs ( no ! only joking)

We do the same- some of our lovely National Trust mugs do seem to stain easily, so a bit of 'thin' bleach and water, then in the diswasher.

Lucky that in France I can buy thin bleach in refill pouches, to save on plastic use. Same for washing liquid, softener, handwash, shower wash, etc, etc.

I buy Tesco’s own disinfectant Oreo and saw some in Aldi a couple of weeks ago.

On a similar subject I can’t find any disinfectant other than Dettol which is expensive.

Witzend

Very puerile I know, but on seeing ‘thick’ bleach, I still often wonder where the ‘intelligent’ bleach is.

🤣

Why all the fuss, bleach is bleach, horrid stuff.
If its thick, surely you don't need so much, and can still dilute it.
I disinfect my kitchen cloths in Zoflora and wash regularly in the washing machine.

Aldi, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and M & S all stock thin bleach.

I use laundry bleach for my whites.

I agree with OP. I like thin bleach to soak my dishcloths in. Tescos no longer seem to stock it.

Where do you shop. I see it all the time.

Nowadays all I can find is the thick stuff. And OK, I can dilute it, or I can use citric acid in some cases, but I like to pop a little squirt of bleach into the washbowl, take my cloth around it, wipe down window sills, for example, and leave the cloth to soak for a few hours. Just the quick stuff to which I never give a second thought. Now I have to dilute the thick stuff first. The bottles of thick bleach take up less space, granted, but I suspect that more gets used over all. Sounds trivial when I read it back, but I just can’t see a good reason for getting rid of the runny bleach we’ve used for decades.
